Your Metabolism Miracle
I first found the concept of The Metabolic Syndrome in numerous sites as I started to research about nutrition, but they all took me to the same author: Diane Kress
The Metabolic Syndrome is also called Metabolism B or Insulin Resistance and it is a hormonal imbalance that leads to excess production of insulin, which is a fat-gaining hormone and an appetite stimulator, so it is right to say that when we have low insulin levels in our blood, then our appetite is reduced.
This Met-B Syndrome is inherited and it translates into the over-processing of carbohydrates where they get stored as excess body fat. And it doesn’t matter how much we diet or exercise, this fat will not shift because when the pancreas releases insulin after we eat carbohydrates, after one hour or so we crave more sugar. More insulin is released and our sugar levels start to swing, which creates fatigue. But we may not realise that Met-B is creating this health state until suddenly, we notice that our body weight doesn’t respond to our old weight-control strategies. It may feel as if the communication between our mind and our body breaks down.
Signs such as the mid-afternoon feeling of lethargy where we crave bread, sweets, sugar or carbohydrates show this state of health and all this food gets stored as fat in our mid-section, which we can’t shift.
Science says that if we temporarily eliminate carbohydrate-dense foods, then we won’t release so much sugar into our bloodstream, which means less insulin is in our blood so our liver will release the glycogen stored in it if we don’t eat any food for more than 5 hours. Hence, the 5 grams of carbohydrates, 5 times a day, within 5 hours from each other.
If we do this for 3 days, we will make our liver deplete all its glycogen stores and it is at this point when our brain needs to focus on something else in order to create energy: fat or muscle. If we start exercising 30 minutes per day, 5 times a week (magical 5, again), our brain will think it is more logical to use up the inactive fat cells than the active muscle cells. And voilà!
When we next eat carbohydrates, we will do so by reintroducing healthy ones and hence, reprogram the body, but we don’t really want to stop eating carbohydrates completely over a long period of time because the pancreas and the liver would not function optimally. Afterwards, we can regulate the increase of carbohydrates we consume from a more balanced platform.
Finally, all the waste products created by the burning of fat need to be eliminated from the bloodstream so drinking enough fluids will be very important to avoid our blood having a high concentration of toxins. When this happens, our brain slows down fat burning in order to avoid this taking place. How much liquid we need to drink can be seen in the colour of our urine: if it is dark yellow, we need to drink more until it is pale yellow. Feeling thirsty is actually not an indication as by the time we are thirsty, we are likely to be dehydrated. The body loses its ability to sense dehydration progressively after the age of 20.
Eating small regular meals to keep our blood sugar levels steady and to be in control of our appetite is the advisable thing to do. In my case, my body simply asked me for it, so this proves the inherent intelligence of the natural survival mechanisms of our bodies... if we listen to them. Taking supplements such as multivitamins, minerals and calcium can help with the regulation of hormone secretion; fish oils will decrease the fat in the blood (cholesterol) and vitamin E will protect the cell membranes from being damaged by free radicals.
As Dr Ward Dean says: “As we get older, we become insulin resistant and essentially, we are all turning into diabetics [...] All carbohydrates turn into sugar increasing insulin, an ageing factor”.
It was the 1st of September 2011 and I made the following notes in my diary:
- “Today I fitted into my size 32 trousers for the first time (South African size!). I weight 58 kgs but somehow something has happened: my body liquids have been redistributed”
- “Last week I realised that all the changes I had made in the past in terms of diet came more from “disliking” my body than from loving it. But as soon as I decided to stop fighting with my body, disliking and disapproving of it, within a shorter time than expected I was led to putting these new jeans on and, to my surprise, they fitted! Even though I have been eating croissants and pizzas during the last 10 days without depriving myself of anything while being on holidays!”
- “Today I went to work for a meeting and I could see how people were looking at me up and down as if they had noticed the changes: I had cut my hair, started to paint my nails again, changing my make-up… for the first time in 8 months, I feel that I am starting to feel, see, notice and definitely show the new energy that is running inside my body!”.
- “In fact, some of my colleagues engaged in conversation with me and were asking me for lessons in crochet, help in changing their diets… Is this a reconnection with others and with the Universe in general after I reconnected with myself? When I think how awful I felt last year about myself and how much better I feel now towards people, I am now willing to fit into the system and accept society’s rules while in the past I was negative and despondent about everything. In fact, I don’t even mind getting up early anymore! I love getting up early and use my days to their highest potential!”
- “I have definitely clicked into a higher level of energy and universal flow. I don’t feel so bitter and I know that I am free to take on any battle... or not. I no longer function on automatic pilot, reacting to my reality as a caged wild animal, protecting some inner vulnerability with all my might. Not a greatly empowered stance. Now, I choose not to fight unnecessary battles and to engage my new energy, motivation and passion to help others achieve a wholesome lifestyle, feel better about themselves and tap into their potential”.
Shortly after my business started to pick up steadily. Indeed, as within, so without!

“The Liberation Diet” is an account of my journey towards health and the changes that I had to make at mind-body-spirit levels in order to get there. I believe that diets don’t work if they are done in exclusion from emotional healing and spiritual direction: we need a complete mindset and a way of living, a philosophy and a life choice to evolve, grow and break our limiting patterns. I don’t believe we can do it only by food alone and I do believe that we are manipulated into dieting to maintain a thriving industry.
Despite our genetic heredity and the terrible habits that modern society has created, which mirror the disintegration of our psyches and our health, I maintain that we can do something about it, and it starts with each one of us: individual complete responsibility for our inner world.

5 年I've just bought your book on amazon UK. I've had hideous digestive issues for years, with today being particularly bad and I'm looking at more changes. After a heart attack last year which seems to have been a few years in the making, I'm gradually returning to health but almost a year of mostly very gentle physical and mental exercise has taken its toll and I'm looking to step up a gear to return to my whole health of many years ago. Once an athelete (once able to kyak 40 miles or cycle 80 miles in a day) always an athelete. In mind at least ??

5 年I have metabolic syndrome and followed a similar diet years ago. It worked well. I have gained the weight again and you have encouraged me to give this diet a go again. Thank you
