Your Media Strategy for 2024

Last week I posted about failed resolutions and how by now, over half of all planned resolutions are done. That being said, it’s the start of the year and if you haven’t pitched the media, there’s still plenty of time.

Here’s how to start?

1) Do you check out??

When the media lands on your website, your LinkedIn or other social media platform, do they know what you do and does it show you as an expert/thought leader in your space?

2) Do you have a timely, relevant pitch that requires an immediate answer?

Are you newsjacking or pitching something that a journalist has to give you a yes or no to right now versus something that is evergreen that they can stick in a folder and get back to you at anytime??

3) Is your subject line a “hook” so they read your email?

Is the journalist even reading your pitch? If you aren’t hooking them in with the subject line (hooking not click bait) they might never read your relevant/timely pitch.

4) Are you pitching the right journalist?

Did you take the time to find the journalist who covers your topic for that media outlet? If you are pitching your business story idea to the food editor, it doesn’t do you any good and they won’t forward it to the right person.

Putting together a strategy of what you can pitch every single month and then DOING it, is how you land in the media and become a thought leader and seen with new found authority and credibility.

Now is the time to put together your February pitches for television and local print (magazines are laid out 4 months in advance).

What can you pitch this month? Last week I sent a television pitch and am waiting to confirm the date. And yesterday I sent off another one with three super timely ideas for February that should get the yes!
