Your Many Selves

Today we are going to speak to our many selves as is explained in the book "Your Symphony of Selves: Discover More of Who We Are' by James Fadiman and Jordan Gruber.

I find it amazing that even in this day and age, mental health professionals find it fine to label people who have different parts of themselves coming to the forefront instead of understanding that as these two authors explain, we are all a combination of various personalities. Personalities that show up at different times, with different people, in different venues based on what aspect of ourselves will best serve the situation.

The idea here is that we can all take ourselves out of the more negative aspect of ourselves by getting in touch with and bringing our more positive self. So, if there is a self inside you that is feeling upset or frustrated, there is another self inside you that can be called forth to figure out what you need to know and who you can ask to help you with getting that particular problem solved. If you are unhappy, feeling down, there is a self inside you that can use that ever-present phone to call someone to get you out of that negative emotional place. I have my Godson as he knows how to crack me up regardless of the terrible place I may find myself in. Luckily for the world at large, I have a few of these times these days - however, there was a time when he was an important aspect of getting me laughing again.

Now, if you have many selves inside you, the authors enlighten us to the fact that others - you know those other people that you encounter during your day - they also have many selves and as such need to be given some slack if one of their less friendly, less positive selves show up. However, by being a positive force for them, you can most likely help them to get into a better emotional place as well as one of their more positive selves will come out to play with you.

Personalization is something that too many people do, unable to recognize that the world does not revolve around them. Frankly, unless someone uses your name in the same sentence as what behavior they are speaking to, there is no need to insert yourself in that position, and by staying out of that position, you may just find that your life just got many times more fun and interesting.

Learning: We all have many selves and we can use our more positive selves to overcome the negative selves we each have inside us. The same can be done if there is a negative self of another shows up. We can bring out the positive self in another by being positive and helpful. No need to personalize what others are saying unless your name is used in the sentence - other peoples' lives include much more than just your presence, so keep your own importance out of their narrative to bring a much happier and healthier mindset for yourself.

For any coaches who are thinking about running a retreat, Bill Dennis of the Villa Serena Holistic Health Hotel is going to be running an online presentation for Retreat Leaders TODAY Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at 4 PM Eastern Time. The cool thing is that he and his wife own the hotel so he will be able to teach you what you need to know about the backend of working with hotels to make sure that you don't get financially screwed in the process of putting on a retreat. There is much that a retreat leader needs to do just to do the leading part of it, AND you have to understand if you are ready to take this on and if so to learn what Bill has so graciously has offered to help you learn in the process.
