Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places

Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places

What Valentine gift do you remember most? Maybe you much prefer Groundhog's Day to Valentine's Day. Could it be that on this Valentine's Day you'd rather stay in bed under the covers, far from the paper hearts, red roses and love songs blaring on the radio? I'm not going to pretend I know that pain. I don't. But I know there are many who do; and I hurt for them. I know there are many who feel unloved and worthless, because someone else has made them think they have no value. I see it in their social media posts: "I'm done! When will someone love me for who I am?"

Years ago, before I had children, I was a real estate agent. When listing property for sale, the list price was always determined by the price comparable properties in the same area had sold for recently. That was the market value. Even on buy and sell sites like eBay, the value of a thing is only determined by the price someone is willing to pay for it. But what about people? How can a person know their value when everyone they've ever cared about left them feeling worthless? Maybe that's you. Maybe you are ready to just give up on love. When determining your self-worth, you must assume you are only worth what someone is willing to give up in exchange for you, for knowing you, for having a relationship with you. If you are questioning your self-worth today, I have good news to share with you!

I want you to know you have immense, priceless value, for Jesus Christ gave all He had for YOU! He gave up Heaven for earth; angels' adoration for human rejection. He left the city of gold for a smelly cattle stall. He exchanged everything, for no material possessions; a Kingly crown, for a crown of thorns; a royal throne for a criminal’s cross and a hard, cold stony tomb. He gave up His life to bear your death sentence. What an extravagant price He paid to save your eternal soul and win your love! He loved you that much. He loved us all that much, even though we are all sinners who transgressed His law, He knew we were far too wretched to get to God on our own merit. (Romans 3:23) And yet, He loved us anyway. Not because of our worth, but in spite of our worthlessness. (Romans 5:28) Until we realize our self-worth is only found in Christ, we will always be banking it in people, pleasures, prestige, possessions, or even in ourselves, only to be disappointed over and over again. Quit investing your self-worth in all the wrong places, my friend. You are precious to the Creator of the Universe. No human being was created to fill that longing in your soul. That's too much pressure for a mere human. Only a true relationship with the Lover of your soul, Jesus Christ, can satisfy and fill that empty place. God created you with the innate desire to know Him, your Creator. And until you know Him through His Son, you will always be on a quest to find satisfaction and fulfillment for your longing soul.

God has a priceless gift for you. His Name is Jesus; and He loves you more than you could ever possibly know or understand. Won't you accept Him today? (John 3:16)
