Your LinkedIn Profile is Killing Your Sales!

Your LinkedIn Profile is Killing Your Sales!

Here’s How to Fix It...

For sales professionals using LinkedIn, your profile is more than just a digital CV... it’s your storefront, elevator pitch, and sales tool all in one. With over one billion users on the platform, LinkedIn is an ideal place to connect with prospects and generate sales leads.

However, if your profile is poorly optimised, it could be doing more harm than good and turning away potential clients before you even get the chance to talk to them.

Below are a few tips on how to transform your LinkedIn profile into a lead-generating powerhouse that attracts and converts potential clients.

Your Headline: First Impressions Matter

Your headline is often the first thing people see. If it’s too generic, you’ll blend into the crowd. This section is your opportunity to grab attention and clearly communicate the value you bring to the table.

  • Avoid: “Sales Executive at XYZ Corp.”
  • Try: “Helping B2B Companies Increase Revenue by Streamlining Their Sales Processes.”

By focusing on what you do for your clients, rather than just your job title, you make it clear to prospects how you can help them solve their problems.

Header Image

This is the largest static area you have on Linkedin to market yourself, your company or your products and services. It is the first area of your profile a visitor's eyes are drawn to and maybe the thing they remember about you.

  • Tip: Ask yourself this question: Is what I do or how I help people obvious from the header image? If not change it!

No Header image results in 40% of profile visitors choosing not to connect with you.

Profile Photo: Professional and Approachable

First impressions count. Your profile picture needs to be professional and approachable. A poorly taken, unclear, or casual photo can lower trust and deter potential leads.

  • Tip: Use a clear headshot with good lighting, a neutral background and a smile. Profiles with professional headshots are 14 times more likely to be viewed by others.

Custom Button

Add a link or, as a Premium Business member, show people the best way to engage with you by adding a custom button to the top of your profile. If a potential client is impressed by your profile, they should have no trouble reaching out.

Craft a Client-Focused “About” Section

Your "About" section is your chance to tell your story, but it shouldn’t just be about you, it should be about how you help your clients.

Rather than listing your achievements, focus on the problems you solve and the value you provide. Use the space to demonstrate your expertise and the outcomes you deliver.

  • Example: “I help businesses streamline their sales processes, reducing costs and increasing revenue by an average of 25%. My passion is finding personalised solutions that enable companies to build stronger relationships with their customers and achieve sustainable growth.”
  • Add Skills: Don't forget to add up to 5 skills you want to be known. This will help you be discovered on the platform as people search key words

The Featured & Services Section: Showcase Success

Your Featured section is prime real estate to highlight key content like case studies, articles, or videos that demonstrate your expertise. Provide one-click content that advances your prospect's buyer journey.

  • Tip: Include customer testimonials or a success story that highlights how you helped a client increase revenue or solve a major problem. This adds credibility and proof of your results.
  • Tip: Include a demo video to give people a taste of your product or service

Your Services section is a 'shop window' for your products and services. Provide clear explanations of the products and services using relevant content such as video or images.

  • Tip: Allow LinkedIn members you’re not connected with to message you for free through Open Profile

Experience Section: Show Results, Not Responsibilities

The Experience section should highlight your accomplishments and the value you’ve provided at each role not just your job role & duties.

  • Example: Instead of writing “Managed client accounts,” say, “Increased client retention by 30% through implementing a personalised engagement strategy.”

By focusing on results, you give potential clients a reason to trust your expertise and see how you might be able to help them achieve similar outcomes.

Endorsements and Recommendations: Build Credibility

The Skills and Recommendations sections are important for building social proof. When potential clients see that others have endorsed your skills and praised your work, it builds your credibility and they’ll be more likely to trust you.

  • Tip: Ask satisfied clients to leave recommendations that focus on specific outcomes you’ve helped them achieve. It adds a personal touch and reinforces your expertise.

Consistent Content Engagement: Stay Top of Mind

A high-performing LinkedIn profile isn’t just about what’s on the profile! It’s also about how active you are on the platform. Regularly post content and engage with your network to build visibility on the platform.

  • Post Ideas: Share industry insights, success stories, tips for overcoming common challenges, and personal reflections. Engaging with your connections’ content is just as important as posting your own.
  • Tip: Aim to post at least 3-4 times a week. The LinkedIn algorithm favours consistent, engaging content.
  • Tip: Aim to engage with 10-12 prospect posts per day. This quickly builds awareness and visibility with future clients.

Not sure if your LinkedIn profile is hitting the mark? Let’s connect! I’d be happy to help you fine-tune it and transform it into a powerful tool for generating sales.
