Your LinkedIn Presence: Shaping Perception. Building Influence.
Kylie Chown
Speaker for Events & Conferences | Strategist, Consultant & Trainer for Professionals, Teams & Organisations | Certified LinkedIn Strategist | Social Media Crisis Advisor | Founder My Digital Brand -LinkedIn Done For You
Last week, I worked with a professional services firm, and as I shared with them, every LinkedIn profile, every post, and every comment contributes to how you and your business are perceived.
Yet, so many professionals hesitate to post. And more often than not, it’s for the same reasons.
But here’s the thing: If you don’t tell your story, someone else will write it for you.
In this newsletter edition, I’m diving into:
? The 10 most common reasons professionals don’t post on LinkedIn and how to overcome them.
? Why professional branding isn’t just about visibility.
? Highlights from our sold-out Local Link Networking Brisbane CBD event.
Plus, if you’re planning a conference or corporate event in 2025, I’ve been updating my sessions. There is more on that below!
Let’s jump in…
Last week, I delivered training for a professional services firm…
One key takeaway?
If you don’t write your story, someone else will.
We discussed how your digital presence is your first impression. Your LinkedIn profile, content, and engagement don’t just represent you - they define how clients, partners, and future employees perceive you.
But it’s not just about individual profiles.
?? Your company brand is only as strong as the personal brands of the people within it.
Every interaction, every post, every comment from your team shapes how your business is perceived. When leaders and team members actively shape their digital presence, they don’t just build credibility for themselves they elevate the entire organisation.
Yet too many professionals assume their work will speak for itself. The reality? If you don’t tell your story, someone else will and it may not be the story you want.
How to Take Control of Your Professional Brand:
? Who is your audience? Speak directly to them. What do they care about? What challenges are they facing? Shape your content to address their needs.
? Make your people the stars. The best company brands are powered by strong professional brands. Encourage your team to share insights, celebrate wins, and engage in conversations. When your people show up, your brand becomes more human and relatable.
? 1 post, 1 purpose. Every piece of content should be intentional. Is it educating, inspiring, or starting a conversation? Keep it clear, valuable, and focused.
Key Takeaways
?? Start where you are. Comment on posts, share insights, and support others.
?? Be consistent. One post won’t build a professional brand but showing up regularly will.
?? Empower your team. Equip them with the confidence and strategy to represent your brand online, it’s one of your most valuable marketing assets.
?? Think long-term. Your digital presence isn’t just about today it’s shaping the opportunities you’ll have tomorrow.
If you don’t write your story, someone else will. And if you’re a leader, take this to the next level by ensuring your team is equipped to do the same.
Launching Local Link Networking in Brisbane
What happens when 90 business owners and professionals come together at a beautiful location with an incredible speaker?
Last week at our sold-out Local Link Networking - Brisbane CBD event, we found out - a room full of energy, connection, and real conversations!
And at the heart of it all was Dave Greenberg. Dave delivered an inspirational session on how we can prepare for our worst working day. Dave shared his BRACE Framework, a strategy to help professionals and business owners stay ready, adapt, and lead through uncertainty.
His stories weren’t just insightful they were practical, relatable, and had us all thinking about how we’d respond when things don’t go to plan. You can read more about the event here.
Our next event is on the 30th of April, and you can get your tickets here.
Did you know that less than 3% of LinkedIn users create content on a weekly basis?
If you’re not posting here on LinkedIn, you’re not alone. The majority of people are scrolling, reading, and observing.
In recent professional branding development sessions, I have been asking teams:
"If you're not creating content on LinkedIn, why not?" and here are the top ten most common answers:
1) Who would even be interested?
2) I don’t want to be annoying.
3) I’m unsure how to make posts look great.
4) What if people judge me?
5) What if I’m wrong?
6) I don’t have time to post.
7) I’m afraid of negative comments.
8) I don’t see the point and it seems like a waste of time.
9) I don't want to be the only one.
10) It’s my profile and my life.
Every one of these reasons has something in common. They are all "I" statements - about me.
The easiest way to flip the script and make it easier to start posting?
Make your community the stars. Your content doesn’t have to be about you it can be about your community. Focus on your clients, your team, your industry, your colleagues, and your events.
?Talk about your clients and share their challenges, successes, and insights.
?Highlight an industry trend and help others stay ahead of what is happening.
?Celebrate your team and recognise contributions while sharing their expertise.
How else have you made your community the stars of your content?
Do you organise Conferences or Events?
Over the past couple of months, I’ve been updating my topics and content for 2025, with new and updated sessions designed to help professionals and businesses become the first found, first thought of, and first contacted in their field.
Whether it’s a conference, workshop, presentation, or training, here’s a snapshot of the presentations I have been working on over the last few weeks:
?? Taking Control of Your Digital First Impression: Align your online presence with your goals to create a powerful, 24/7 impact that lasts.
??Running Your Social Media Crisis Playbook: Safeguard your brand’s reputation with a proactive and strategic approach.
?? Leveraging Your LinkedIn Profile for Impact: Transforming your LinkedIn profile from a static resume into a dynamic and engaging digital presence.
??LinkedIn for Women in Industry/Leadership: Enhance visibility to amplify both your personal and professional impact. Perfect for internal team sessions and industry groups.
One of the things I enjoy most about these sessions is the feedback that comes after.
Here’s what some have shared with me:
