If your Linkedin Page were Real Estate, would you Invest in it?
I do not have any huge goals for February. It is just a month that continues with my 2021 mission: centering myself. These past ten years have been spent behind the scenes, working on peoples’ projects as an editor or ghostwriter, or content strategist. This year, I have chosen to “center myself”.
Some of this journey to 'self-centering', has to do with being more deliberate about my personal brand online. This is because the idea of communications now transcends working for other people, creating communications strategies; what about you? How do you speak about yourself? The world of work has changed so much, that you have to bring not just your ideas and strategies to the table, you have to bring everything.
Linkedin is one of my first bus-stops. I have become more active here. So, when I saw the EmpowerU online event, I knew I had to attend. So yesterday, I joined a session on how to optimize Linkedin for success with Fiyin Toyo; here are a few take-aways:
Personalize: Just as you personalize your CV, personalize your Linkedin Profile too. It is not a dumping ground for stale information, always edit and rework it for better optimization. Also, do not forget to track your profile for progress: what has changed? What has improved since you personalized your profile or became more active?
Research: To be better able to personalize your CV effectively, research is key. You should be asking yourself: what are the organizations that I want to work for in this field looking for? What is evolving? What do I need to be studying? This personal research will help you to not only boost the performance of your Linkedin profile by attracting unique views but will also be useful during interviews. So, Google is your friend. Start your research work today.
What are you building? Linkedin is prime real estate for job seekers/employers. It is important for you to know that every element of your profile is a building block, useful to the overall building of your personal brand. Linkedin is not just an online resume, it is your digital reputation, what is it saying about you? What does your profile picture say about you? What does your headline say about you even without saying any words? What does your bio say?
"Have an end-of-discussion bio. It should be a summary of your past, your present, and future."
Other ways to determine the value of your building include the skills, references, and completing your Linkedin profile.
If truly your Linkedin page were real estate, would you invest in it?
