Your legacy.....

...excerpt from my daily message to the company.

"My legacy is your success" - Command Sergeant Major Dennis Johnson

You can google him, but you will not find much on the real SGM Johnson. He was one of my cadres that trained us while I was a cadet at Colorado State University. As a cadet you learn how to lead soldiers into battle, lots of battle drills and classroom instruction. The military assigns their best NCOs to ROTC college Battalions to work with and train cadets to become Officers. When he said this to me I didn't internalize it, in fact it took years for me to truly understand and strive to live those words.

SGM Johnson came from rural West Virginia and spent most of his life in the infantry, specifically as an Army Ranger. He joked that he was the only guy in his ranger class to gain weight. He worked us hard and knew as a soldier and NCO that he had a responsibility to other soldiers and Non-Commissioned Officers (Sergeants) to produce men and women that would be high quality officers. I was saddened when I learned a couple of years ago that he passed away from cancer - as a career soldier he survived on coffee and cigarettes. A tough man, a combat veteran, a trainer of a generation of Rangers and future Officers. Think about how many people he touched and made better. His legacy was always tied to the success of others. He embodied selfless leadership and each day he strove to make those around him better.

As you think of the quote and internalize it yourself, think of your customers and their success.  Your legacy is their success. I am sure you don't want your legacy to be "Yes, he sold me something and moved on." The more successful our nurses and doctors are in treating their patients, the more successful we will be. If you start your day and think "My legacy is the success of my Nurses and Doctors with treating their Patients" you can't go wrong. Before you meet with a doctor or nurse, say to yourself, "I will make them successful". Our technology is helping people across the country - doctors, nurses, and most importantly people that are laying on the ICU bed in their most vulnerable condition of their life. It is our duty to make our doctors and nurses successful. It is our mission. There are hospitals that need and want Accuryn!

"I will make them successful!"

Have a great day!

Joe

I love this! It makes me think of an African proverb that I think is so true “if you want to go fast, go Alone. If you want to go far, go Together” Imagine if we help others succeed and in turn help ourselves leave a legacy better than we could have imagined alone.
