Your Leadership Leaves a Mark

The following is a leadership truth that I’ve been sharing with leaders, teams and organizations over the past few months:
“Everything you do and don’t do – everything you say and don’t say – has an impact, including unintended impacts. Conscious and influential leaders constantly scan for and consider these impacts.”
Leaders often assume that the only impact their action (or lack of action) has is whatever they have consciously intended. However, there are always unintended consequences that often have the most negative impact on your team, your organization and your leadership.
Leaders must be aware of potential unintended impacts and tailor your decisions based upon all the possibilities, not just your initial intention.
One objective of a leader should be to avoid surprise – be prepared for various scenarios and impacts – and be aware that everything you do or say (or don’t do or say) has an impact. This is a critical leadership foundation, because your leadership always leaves a mark!
