Your Leadership Could Be Failing: Here's the Science Why
The world's changed.
Lightning-fast communication and constant digital buzz.
Leadership should have evolved to match the pace.
But has it? ???
I'd been looking over research by esteemed Harvard professor Ellen Langer and and Mihnea Moldoveanu research about mindfulness and leadership.
Langer and Moldoveanu (2013) ??
Objective: To assess how mindfulness in leaders affects employee performance and satisfaction
Design: Leaders with mindfulness practices were observed and compared with those without such practices. The behaviors tracked included how these leaders listened, communicated empathy, and displayed non-judgmental acceptance.
Measured Outcomes: Employee job satisfaction, engagement, and productivity levels were the primary metrics evaluated to determine the influence of mindful leadership.
Key Findings: The study revealed that leaders who engaged in mindful practices created a more positive work environment. This, in turn, correlated with higher reports of job satisfaction and engagement among employees as well as increased overall productivity.
Langer and Moldoveanu (2015) ??
Objective: To explore the effects of leaders’ mindfulness on team performance and collaboration
Design: This study focused on teams led by mindful leaders versus teams without such leadership. The emphasis was on measuring the quality of communication, the degree of empathy expressed, and the resulting team dynamics.
Measured Outcomes: The performance and collaboration levels of the teams were the benchmarks for success in this study.
Key Findings: Mindful leaders were shown to significantly boost team performance and foster a collaborative spirit. Improved communication and empathy were pinpointed as key drivers of these positive outcomes.
Could we be we stuck in the past employing outdated leadership styles and lack real gravitas and presence?
It's time to look at the evidence. Here's why:
1/ Active Listening ??
Are you really listening, or just paying lip service?
Mindful leaders are stellar listeners.
This skill is non-negotiable in the modern workplace.
Especially for those of us who recognize that culture eats strategy for breakfast.
2/ Employee Engagement ??
Mindfulness equals engagement.
Engaged teams are the engines of innovation and productivity.
Without it, you're driving with the handbrake on.
3/ Stress Management ??♂?
High stress leads to high turnover or worse, quiet quitting.
A mindful leader models good stress management.
It's better to be a model of assurance because fear is already the default.

4/ Job Satisfaction ??
Satisfaction doesn't stem from a paycheck alone.
It comes from feeling seen and heard.
Mindful leadership fosters a culture where satisfaction is part of the package.
5/ Team Dynamics ??
Great teams aren't built by accident.
Mindful leadership is the secret ingredient for a collaborative and supportive team culture.
You can't have collaboration without presence and attention.
6/ High-Quality Decisions ??
Quick fixes don't fix much.
Mindful leaders are able to make informed decisions that stand the test of time.
7/ Burnout Prevention ??????
Recognizing the signs of burnout can save your team from going up in flames.
With this, you can turn to mindfulness as a leader to reclaim your mindspace, make better decisions and listen better.
8/ Building Trust ??
Trust is the currency of leadership.
Without it, you're bankrupt.
Mindfulness builds trust through authenticity and empathy.
9/ Reputation Management ??
It is said that people join companies but leave managers.
Your leadership style is your brand.
Establishing mindfulness in your leadership upgrades your reputation because you are going to be more focused, attentive and present for people, even in times of crisis.

Thanks Stuart! I like the managing stress part and I think alot of senior leaders tend to undercall the overcommunication task that's needed in times of organizational stress. And I don't mean more town halls necessarily but communication that speaks more of genuine empathy and increasing visibility of the senior leaders in times of stress
