Your latest HR and people tech news is here!

Each month we bring you bite-sized news from across the industry to help you keep an eye on how the HR tech landscape is shifting. Although the summer months are a historically slow time for announcements across all industries (and, honestly, we’re still a little shy on volume), there have been some very interesting things happening this July. (Workday is up to something extra interesting ??)

Dayforce has a new Group VP of EMEA?

As part of their mission to make work life better around the world, Dayforce has enlisted the aid of Nicole Bello as their new Group Vice President of EMEA. Bello says: “Dayforce has experienced tremendous growth across the EMEA region, and I look forward to working with the exceptional team of Daymakers to continue driving quantifiable value, delivering simplicity at scale, and enhancing people experiences for our customers and their employees.”?

Deel continuing to make acquisitions?

Payroll and HR platform Deel has been growing consistently and somewhat aggressively over the past few years, acquiring many businesses. Most recently, Deel have acquired global IT platform Hofy. This acquisition will support their aims to launch Deel IT, an end-to-end IT services platform. This fits with many of Deel’s expansions as their platform encompasses a larger and larger suite of capabilities.?

UKG and Intuit layoffs?

While now out of recession, the economic climate has pushed many businesses to reassess their strategic direction, including both UKG and Intuit. Both businesses have cited growth as the reason for the layoffs, but with slightly different approaches.?

For UKG, letting go of 2,100 employees has happened as part of a strategic redirection into greater AI, customer success and branding capabilities.?

Meanwhile, Intuit’s 1,800 person layoffs are the result of a different kind of redirection involving a greater restructure. Not only are they reducing and changing most executive roles within the business, they are also looking to “streamline work and reallocate resources toward key growth areas.”?

Zellis HCM AIR makes its debut?

Zellis has launched Zellis AIR, a product upgrade that combines the power of AI with Realtime payroll calculation. (Hence, AIR.) This is a full generational upgrade for their HR and payroll platform Zellis HCM Cloud. The goal is to increase payroll functionality and efficiency.?

Zellis has award-winning payroll?

Zellis has really been going full steam ahead lately. In addition to the launch of AIR, Zellis has also won Payroll Provider of the Year from the Global Payroll Awards! They received the award based on both their innovation and the cost-saving efficiencies provided to clients.?

Lattice brings in a new Chief People Officer?

AI-powered people platform Lattice has a new CPO: Gianna Driver. This is one of many moves the company is making to facilitate further scaling and innovation. She will be responsible for both people-centred growth and driving product innovation.?

Workday partners with Salesforce?

Believe it or not, this isn’t even the really interesting thing we mentioned Workday doing at the beginning. But it is something to take note of! Salesforce and Workday are collaborating to create tightly unified capabilities including an AI-powered employee assistant that will aid onboarding, health benefits, and career development. Workday have also announced they will create a common data foundation that unifies HR and financial data from Workday with CRM data from Salesforce. This will enable AI to boost productivity, lower costs and improve employee experience.?

Workday in the limelight?

HR tech vendor Workday, already a ubiquitous name in the industry, is about to be that much more well known. In a recent press release, Workday have announced that, in conjunction with The SpringHill Company, they will be launching a new documentary called ‘UNTAPPED: Closing America’s Opportunity Gap.’ The film is set to debut on Netflix this fall.?

People Tech adjacent news?

These final three updates are from businesses that aren’t technically HR or payroll tech, but they’re such familiar friends that they may as well be.?

Headspace?

Headspace are bringing on a new Chief Executive Officer. Tom Pickett, formerly Door Dash, Google and Crunchyroll, joins the meditation and mental health platform and is “excited to support the company’s growth and scale as we execute our mission to provide everyone with lifelong mental health support.”?

Duolingo?

Duolingo has recently acquired a design and animation studio called Hobbes. This shows an interest in increase in amping up the illustrated nature of the platform. This comes from a stated belief that a more vibrant, animated app will lead to more joy and better learning outcomes.?

SurveyMonkey?

SurveyMonkey, a very familiar friend in the HR toolkit, has won top recognition across multiple categories from the Inspiring Workplaces Group 2024. SurveyMonkey was listed as 2nd out of 100 in the overall category and 1st out of the top five in the large business category for North America. In the UK and Ireland, the company was listed as 10th out of 50 in the overall category.?
