Your Lack of Follow Through...is why employees don't care

We all know it...employees usually think that employee surveys are a joke. If you have been working for at least a few decades like me (feeling old right about now lol) you have had enough life/work experience to know how the majority of people feel about surveys.

Employees think surveys are worth because:

  • It's a waste of time, because it falls on deaf ears
  • They are worried about retaliation, so the won't be truly honest
  • They believe it's just a BS "check in the box" for corporate, thats it
  • They don't trust HRs intentions
  • There is no follow through after the survey

If you don't follow through with an action plan & communicate it to your employees, your survey is worthless at best.

Employees want:

  • To know they have been heard
  • Have a "safe place" to air their concerns without fear of relation
  • They don't want to feel like their time was wasted (taking survey)
  • Action Plans communicated - which shows "buy in"
  • Action Plans followed through so they know you listen & care

We can't keep doing the same things over and over again expecting a different result, because as we know that is the definition of insanity. Do you want your employee surveys to mean something and not be a waste of time?

Here is how to make employee surveys effective:

  • Have someone outside the company facilitate (me - shameless plug)
  • Understand that TRUE anonymous survey results are vital
  • Make an action plan
  • Communicate the plan
  • Follow through with your plan - or it is all for NOTHING

Don't lose the trust of your employees, because you lack follow through. If you want to maintain a healthy culture. You have to practice what you preach. You have to FOLLOW THROUGH, because if you don't they will follow through with finding a company that cares more and shows them.

Instead - be the company people run TO, not away FROM. Click the link below & we will make sure that happens. Client testimonials can always be found on my linkedin profile page. I recently just had a client's employee engagement boost to over 25% - that can be your company too :)

Had a discussion with two of my departments today about workplace culture. Discussed the attributes of both positive and negative culture and the implications it can have in the workplace. BL - Leaders build culture.

Thank you for sharing, Brittany. I found this to be so incredibly accurate to how and why employees feel this way, not only should employees feel free to air out their concerns but feel safe doing so and not fearing retaliation from an upset manager, director, etc. That's another huge failure when companies conduct "anonymous" surveys but use internal resources that sometimes include less-than-reputable and respectable HR teams is backlash and commentary regarding an employees valid concerns being deemed as an "attack" but then said employee continues to do zero follow through!! AAAGH! Regardless, I could feel the frustration in this article regarding this issue lol!
