The Journey to the VALUE Formula
The VALUE formula wasn't born overnight—it emerged from personal struggles and steep learning curves.
My own perfectionism posed the greatest barrier. As discussed in last week's newsletter, it led me to evade online presentation opportunities due to fear of technical blunders, and to delay product launches because they didn't feel 'perfect.' I realised, however, that this perfectionist mindset was far more debilitating than any technical challenge. The key to online success lay in embracing imperfection, not avoiding it.
This epiphany led to the founding of Take One Tech, a testament to the power of single-take, imperfect video content. This was a strategy focused on continuous learning and growth—an approach grounded in accepting imperfection.
Yet, the book and the VALUE formula are not just a culmination of my personal journey—they represent countless hours spent coaching individuals globally, helping them understand their digital communication hurdles and guiding them towards effective solutions.
Through my coaching and the Take One Tech Academy, I've helped hundreds of individuals enhance their online presence. Despite being experts in their fields, these individuals faced a common struggle: wrestling with technology that seemed more an obstacle than an asset.

In the VALUE formula, 'visuals' is an all-encompassing term—it refers not only to your on-camera appearance but to all elements that your audience can visually perceive in your online interactions. This includes the overall quality of your video, the design of your background, the use of additional visual aids, and of course, your personal appearance. In an online meeting, amidst a grid of faces, a high-quality video can help you stand out and command respect even before you utter a single word. A well-composed visual narrative not only prevents distractions but makes your story more compelling and memorable. Remember, your visuals are often the first impression you make in the digital realm, making them a key determinant of your audience's perception. Hence, strategic visual choices can lead to a powerful and lasting impression.
Audio?
When we talk about 'audio' in the context of online communication, it means more than just the transmission of sound—it's about achieving crystal-clear communication through clarity of both voice and message. A voice that is clear and free of disruptions or background noise can carry your message effectively, resonating deeply with your audience. The minutiae of your voice, from the subtle inflections to the nuanced emotions behind your words, contribute significantly to your online persona, showcasing your passion and authenticity. As audio is a foundational aspect of your online communication, it holds the power to either enhance or undermine your connection with your audience. Effective lighting is a game-changer for your on-screen appearance. Even with a basic camera, thoughtful and well-considered lighting can elevate your video quality, making you appear professional and engaging. The aim is to ensure your audience remains focused on you and your message, rather than being distracted by your surroundings. Lighting isn't just about visibility—it's about creating a visual impact that leaves a lasting impression on your audience and contributes to the effectiveness of your communication.
