Your job search doesn't have to be hard. If you're feeling overwhelmed read this...

Job searching can be so tough for various reasons, we're only human at the end of the day.

Rejections can be discouraging, and preparing for interviews, especially with presentations, can be overwhelming.

It might feel like your whole life revolves around it. While I'm not suggesting it shouldn't, as adults, we need to take care of our well-being. If you're aiming for a quick job change, the more effort you invest, the faster you could land that important job offer.

However, remember to be mindful of your emotions. Create specific times for job searching and applying, and ensure you schedule breaks to decompress.

If you have children, consider asking family and friends for help.

Don't forget to take care of yourself. Arriving at an interview looking worn-out and on the brink of a breakdown is not ideal.

In short, give it your all but maintain a balance. Your health and well-being matter too.

Here are my top tips for an easier job search....

#1 Pause and take a breath: If it feels overwhelming right now, you will be feeling like you haven’t got 5 mins to go to the toilet, let alone create a better plan. You need to pause and create a plan, now more than ever, you will achieve more this way. Your plan doesn't have to be big, just the next 3 things that you need to do. You can write an entire list to completely doownload, but them circle the top 3. Get those done and move onto the next 3.

#2 Set Clear Goals: Define your job search objectives and prioritise them. I often hear “I’m applying for everything and anything, I need a new job fast” Sorry! But this is counterproductive. Pick one job title, one industry and one salary and do nothing but search for that for the next week.

#3 Time Management: Allocate specific time slots for job searching, networking, and applying. If you're currently employed, consider dedicating evenings and weekends to your job search. Create a schedule that allows you to manage your current job and family responsibilities while actively looking for new opportunities.

#4 Utilise Breaks and Downtime: If you're employed, use your breaks, lunch hours, and commute (if applicable) to search for jobs, send out applications, and network. These pockets of time can add up and contribute massively to your job search efforts.

#5 Stay Organised: It’s so important to keep track of your job applications, networking connections, and interview appointments. Use tools like spreadsheets and calendars, to maintain a clear overview of your progress.

#6 Prioritise Self-Care: Balancing work and job searching can be stressful. Make self-care a priority by getting enough rest, engaging in physical activity, practicing mindfulness, and maintaining a healthy diet. Taking care of your well-being will improve your overall productivity. Most people when they get stressed will eat rubbish, skip exercise and feel like they haven’t got 5 mins to meditate. When you’re in this situation you need to eat better, exercise, and find 5 mins per day to meditate more than ever.

#6 Networking: Leverage your existing network. Who works in the companies you’d like to work for??just ask them if can they refer you or recommend you to relevant hiring managers.

#7 Tailored Applications: As always, don’t send an application if it’s not tailored. This doesn’t mean copying and pasting the job description into your CV or copying the personal summary from your CV into your cover letter. Tailoring an application means showing what you can bring to the party, how you add value, and how an employer will get an excellent ROI. If you’re not sure how, you can listen to the podcast "Career and Leadership Real Talk" or check out my services www.pamelalangan.com

#8 Recruiters: If you find a good one, keep in touch with them, otherwise take them at face value and don't pin all your hopes on them, if they ghost you leave them to it and continue your job search. Don’t let recruiters knock your confidence or spoil your day.

#9 Stay Positive: Job searching can be a challenging process, and it's important to maintain a positive outlook. Celebrate small victories, learn from rejections, and stay motivated to reach your goals. All of these things keep you in the flow, you need to be in the flow for a successful job search. Rejection is a part of that process, don’t be offended by it, just keep moving forward.
