Here is a list of 10 red flag indicators:
- Injured worker calls an attorney on the way to the walk-in clinic.
- Injured worker was recently reprimanded or written up.
- Injured worker and supervisor do not get along.
- No witnesses to the injury.
- Injury occurs within 90 days of hire.
- Typically, soft tissue injury and a strain, sprain, etc.
- Co-morbidity issues - smoker, diabetic or overweight.
- Injured worker is unhappy with treating physician.
- Spouse is collecting disability.
- Injured worker is behind on paying child support.
What do we need to do to deny or mitigate this cost?
- Send medical questionnaire to the carrier adjuster;
- Get surveillance requested immediately;
- If litigated, discuss early settlement to lower cost - it's cheaper!
