Your Infinite Potential: Take a Break
Hit the reset button. Recharge your batteries. It’s good for you and it’s good for your work.
I am actually on vacation right now in beautiful British Columbia (thus the short blog this week). I have always loved getting away - whether it is an adventure holiday in a remote corner of the world, a relaxing, outdoorsy vacation, or a city break. I find it gives me a new perspective, precious time with families and friends, time for myself to reflect and a refreshing break from my usual routines. Ever find you cannot remember what happened in a typical week, but your holiday memories are vivid for years.
Your brain loves to vacation. It needs the break from your fast-paced life. When your wheels are constantly churning through daily tasks, you don’t have time to let life’s lessons sink in.
Research shows that relaxation creates new synapses and allows new skills and information to put down deeper roots in your brain. This downtime also lets your brain click into a mode that fosters creativity.
Having a holiday in a new place or different situation also puts your brain to work in different ways. You have to adapt to unusual environments. Uncommon situations require problem solving. This exercises your brain, keeping it strong and healthy.
Many people don't fit in their allocated vacation time -thinking they are too busy and are worried that work will pile up when they are gone. However, the health and re-invigoration - as well a the shake up of your perspective are well worth it.
Taking a break staves off burnout and improves creativity. Research even shows that productivity improves among workers who take vacations regularly. So, taking time off could be your ticket to unlocking your infinite potential.

6 年I’m such a huge believer in this statement. Your brain is a machine and so needs downtime. The more you give it the better it performs. I’m a big believer in the Dan Sullivan (Canadian granddaddy of all coaches) Free, Focus and Buffer days. I can’t always manage it but I always aspire to it. Enjoy your hols.
