Your Imagination is a Superpower

Your Imagination is a Superpower

The Power of Imagination is one of the greatest gifts ordained to men, that no other living creatures share. Our ability to see things beyond the immediate surrounding is so strongly placed that our minds can transport to different world with the mere thoughts of our head. We can so vividly imagine the future we are going to live, or at least the one we wish to live.

We day-dream constantly and it is natural to all humans alike. To reveal surprising facts, experts estimate that one person can have 60000 to 80000 thoughts on an average day! Our ability to imagine can in turn be a superpower that most of us aren’t aware of yet. Imagination can be used not just to escape reality and drift off to fantasies, but to create realities for us. Human civilization is the biggest symbolic showcasing betterment and advancement. The greatest inventions that transformed living for mankind, have also sprouted as ideas from individuals who dared to dream.

When we think of our head-space, we immediately realize how we’ve all thought of million ways the world could be better in our eyes. This in turn tells us how our ability to create the future is not just determined by the thought bubbles in our heads, but is also constrained by it. The greatest leaders to have walked the planet, showing mankind directions to the better world have also all been acclaimed visionaries and vivid thought leaders. To ask, how visionaries are made? It is in their ability to unleash imagination with courage, vividly and profoundly visualize dreams and give it energy to expand beyond.

A great deal of power in creating a vision comes from courage, energy, love and feelings you give to your imagination. At no point across history have leaders and inventions come to glory without support. Sharing your ideas and welcoming others’ is best to expand the capabilities of your reckless thoughts; giving them direction, advices, more knowledge and understanding and the courage to leap beyond.

To use this unique power in the best way possible, we draw back to Deepak Chopra’s quote, “The best use of imagination is creativity. The worst use of imagination is anxiety.”

I believe it’s human to feel overwhelmed with emotions sometimes. The invitation is to acknowledge and not ignore our emotions. As it is said, What you resist persists. What you accept transforms. When feeling overwhelmed, we can choose to pause, breath and reflect. How do I feel? (name an emotion). Where in the body do I feel this emotion? What Image do I get when I think of this emotion? If I could speak to this image what would it say? What message has it come to deliver? What do I need to accept? What do I need to let go? What’s one thing I can do that’s totally in my control? Our imagination certainly is capable of creating a mountain of a molehill. So, why not use it for our good and orchestrate heaps of possible possibilities by tapping into its limitless potential. Thank you Amit Kapoor for raising the inquiry.

A bundle of them overwhelm me, but not for too long Amit Kapoor. It takes a while for me to pick up each thought and untangle the ball of them woven into each other and complicating the process of detangling further as they knot up…but I like doing that for the joy of getting there. I love how hard they are to rein when they start to spiral and I also dislike that it is within my control which direction they take. Love hate relationship I have with my thoughts. More love least measure of hate.

I have never felt overwhelmed by my own thoughts, I cherish them. If I face a challenge, then it is the fact, that I sometimes action them too quickly and have confused many a team member of mine by giving the impression that I want my thoughts to immediately be operationalized. And then of course, they are overtaken by yet another creative turn. Those who have worked with me will remember... for example Frank Peter Fischer Christine Raj

Thanks, Amit! This quote is a great inspiration for today: “The best use of imagination is creativity. The worst use of imagination is anxiety.”

Great point Amit! Mind is a great servant, but a terrible master! It's up to us how we wish to relate to it
