Your Hardest Battles Can Lead to Your Greatest Breakthroughs

If you can truly believe this, you can be victorious in your life.

Six years ago, I found myself signing up for SoulCycle—not just for fitness, not just for fun.

But for survival—because I was drowning in grief after suddenly losing my mother.

Nothing prepares you for that kind of loss. It felt like the air had been knocked out of my lungs, like the world was moving forward while I was stuck in a fog of sorrow.

Depression was creeping in, pulling me into a dark place I didn’t know how to escape.

I didn’t realize then just how much strength, perseverance, and faith were already inside me—I just knew I had to keep showing up.

I cried through classes. I stopped pedaling at times. I wanted to quit.

But I kept going.

And somewhere between the loud music and my own doubts, God met me in that space. The noise of the world faded, and in the stillness of my soul, I heard a whisper:

You’re still here. You’re still fighting. You’re stronger than you think.

We all come to moments in life when we have to decide: Do we let the pain define us, or do we rise above it?

For me, SoulCycle became more than a workout—it became a battlefield where I discovered what I was truly made of—not just physically but spiritually.

With each push of the pedal, each moment I refused to give up, I realized: I wasn’t just fighting for my body—I was fighting for my faith.

And isn’t that the call for all of us?

God never promised a life free of hardship. But He did promise victory.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33

When we lean on Him in our weakest moments, we tap into a supernatural strength that isn’t our own.

A strength that rebuilds what was lost, restores what was broken, and renews hope where despair once lived.

Even if your faith feels small and you’re barely holding on, God can do the impossible with the tiniest seed of belief.

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” — Matthew 17:20

The more we trust Him, the more our faith grows. The more we surrender, the more we see Him move. The more we lean on Him, the more we realize we were never meant to carry it all alone.

Maybe you’re in a battle right now. The weight of loss, failure, fear, or uncertainty may be too heavy to carry.

But hear me when I say this: You are not alone.

Hold on. Keep showing up. Keep trusting. Keep believing.

Because if you can just hang on during those fearful, trying times, and lean on God, you WILL be victorious.

You will rebuild what was lost, regain the strength you always had inside, and rise.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31

This is your moment.

And if you need encouragement, community, and strength to walk this journey, we are here to remind you: You don’t have to do it alone.

I have a mustard seed from Israel, Kelley. One tiny piece of scotch tape holds about 12 seeds. We don't need much faith but like you said, it's using it and not quitting.

When I lost my mom 22 years ago suddenly to a heart attack, I, too, was stunned and lost. She and I didn't see eye-to-eye on everything, and her unhealthy habits led to her passing, but it was still a shock. She was sort of a compass for my life, to ground me. In the years that followed, like Kelley, I was in a fog. I made bad decisions to try to make myself feel better, and paid the price for those poor choices. I won't go into all the details, but it was a dark period, and I wanted to give up so many times. But God met me in my darkness, just as He met Kelley in hers. His words to me were always, "This too shall pass." Eventually, instead of ending my life, I recommitted it to Him and He has graciously restored me and given me purpose. I encourage everyone within my LinkedIn network to read this article. I echo everything she has written. Thank you for sharing and being so transparent and authentic, Kelley Tyan
