Your happy place

Your happy place

I actually enjoy working.

Often I have been told I have an imbalance in my life - the suggestion being I work too much or appear to place too much importance on working. This is more the view of others than what I might think and feel or be conscious of about myself.

Sure I have my work place / employment frustrations and sometimes choose to vent and off load these (I am learning to be more mindful of the potential impact this has on others).

Recently I experienced one of the most impacting events on my life - the passing of a very close loved one.  Amidst my life reflections work has surfaced as a domain of my life to be reviewed.

Working in the employment sector I have concluded I like what I do.  In summary for me, despite the commercial aspect, our industry fundamentally helps others.

Those who know me best or have experienced me being at my best know the energy that can be created when I am working with an employer, a group of managers or an individual within the context of recruitment, on boarding and wider workforce issues or idea generation, or when I am engaging with an individual on some aspect of their career, a recruitment process that they are in, or if I am challenging them to do more introspection or consider the potential of having courage to speak with their manager or even if we are just exploring the life situation they find themselves in.  Work tends to feature in there to some extent.

I will add a universal "thank you" as I get a lot back from my interactions with people - it ultimately sees me in my happy place.

As you do I have been on the net looking at stuff.  In the context of the above I was looking at what makes people happy in their work.  I found the following (link below) and whilst it has much broader context than work, I enjoyed the article and identify with much of the content. I related this specifically to my reflection upon the work domain of my life. This reminded me that I often describe a sense of privilege in working in recruitment - this is because of the employer, organisational and sector as well as candidate insights that we get exposed to and because we are consulted for our own insights and advice.  I can now add that I work in a profession than enables me to derive a level of happiness from my work.

I get to help people and helping people makes or enables me to be happier!

In our jobs we all interact internally or externally or both with others.  To some extent we provide a level of help to others doing their work, be it procuring a product, service or outcome, seeking understanding or requesting information.

Maybe next time you help someone in doing your work, pause for a moment and try to identify with being happy about that!

I hope you have at least a moment of happiness in your work today!

Love it, happiness and fulfilment exists in those many small moments day to day, but only for those who have eyes to see it! Great reminder to always take pause and reflect. Thanks for sharing this.
