Your gut health affects pretty much everything, why we need to take gaming seriously, an AI stylist and more!

It's time to ditch stereotypes about gaming

This is a refreshing read by Leo Olebe , Global Head of Gaming at YouTube . He explains that a recent survey commissioned by YouTube found that more than 8 out of 10 recruiters in the UAE and Saudi Arabia are more likely to hire someone who is a gamer and can speak about the skills they've gained through #gaming. Yet most people would not mention gaming on their resume or in a job interview, because the narrative around gaming is not entirely positive (it's childish, gamers are not motivated... etc).

He goes on to note that his own son learned to code because he wanted to build a mod for a game, and that skill landed him his first job (congratulations!). Personally, I've learned teamwork and communication skills, strategy and planning as well as management skills through video games. I've also had the opportunity to meet and learn from people from across the world, and have learned to lose with grace.

Follow your gut

Your gut bacteria is important to your happiness, mood, memory and cognition. In case you didn't know, 90% of the serotonin in your body is located in your gut, not your brain. #Serotonin regulates mood, bowel movements, and sleep among other functions, so it's pretty important. What you eat, and what microbes are in your gut play a role in the production of serotonin, and as such, play a role in your mood, memory, and everything else serotonin controls.

“It’s fascinating that people who perform the worst on memory tests — like if you if you’re starting to develop Alzheimer’s — the things they tend to eat the most are things like sugar, soda, and so forth,” Rob Knight says. “Whereas the ones who perform best, they’re eating more fish, they’re eating more strawberries, they’re eating more mushrooms. So we’re starting to get a very detailed picture of what foods are good or bad for most people.”

For example, older patients with memory loss who switched to a Mediterannean diet saw considerable improvements in their symptoms. It's not a cure, but there's a clear correlation.

Marine population explodes every 36 million years. Here's why

Tectonic plates bring about more than just earthquakes – apparently, there's a link between their movement and sea life. Every 36 million years, changing sea levels disrupt the ecosystem, causing marine species to go extinct or evolve. Basically, when tectonic plates shift, they suck water under the mantle of the Earth, changing sea levels and forcing sea species to adapt.

Meet your AI stylist

A UAE-based company, Get Outfit , has created a fashion discovery app featuring an AI-powered stylist. While it's not exactly like the hi-tech closet featured in Clueless, it's an interesting and practical use of AI that could save people time and effort in the morning.
