Your Guide To What We’re Up To
The Library Collective
An independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to education and innovation for better librarianship.
Join us this month as we launch The Collective at Sea’s call for participation, provide an update on what we have in store at our next virtual event, showcase the writing talents of a library worker, and more. So keep reading to stay in the loop!
Virtual Event - Tales of Censorship
We’re excited to close out our second set of free virtual events on June 30th with a thought-provoking panel discussion on the topic of censorship efforts and how libraries are addressing and managing these challenges.
Join us as we bring together speakers that have created book sanctuaries in Florida, helped pass a bill outlawing book bans in Illinois, are fighting against censorship efforts in Texas and more.
Registration for the virtual panel is free, and all are welcome to attend. Don't miss this opportunity to contribute to the dialogue on intellectual freedom and the vital role of libraries in our society. Reserve your spot today by visiting https://bit.ly/3GnG9Wr.
The Collective at Sea CFP Now Open
Celebrate our 10th year with us! Join our annual gathering themed "Make Waves! Create Change!" as we focus on identifying disruptive ideas and exploring innovative solutions for libraries.
We invite proposals that showcase how libraries are meeting the diverse needs of users and challenging conventional notions. Let's redefine library roles, leverage emerging technologies, and revolutionize libraries for the post-digital age. The Collective at Sea has room for robust and diverse contributions from library workers and stakeholders, from the serious to the silly, the pedagogical to the personal.
Join us as we seek to disrupt our profession and the world!
Talent Spotlight
This month we’re highlighting the work of library worker, Michael Perret.
Michael is a poet and translator whose work has appeared in Azonal, The Decadent Review, Wild Musette, and The Horror Zine. His most recent work, The Chimera is a poetic mash-up of gothic poetry that explores the patriarchal values that underlie the concept of monstrosity in Western art.
When not writing, Michael can be found at The University of Texas at Austin Libraries where he works as a member of the Acquisitions and Processing team.
Are you a library worker who also happens to be a musician, artist, or writer that would like us to share your work? If so, just contact us and we’ll gladly help promote your work for free!
Input Needed
Last month, we opened our survey seeking input on possible locations for the Libraries World’s Fair project we’re developing. We have identified several potential contenders, and we would greatly appreciate your thoughts and feedback.
If you haven’t already done so, please spare a moment to complete a brief survey and share your opinions with us. Your input will help shape this grand event and make it truly memorable.
Like What We Do?
Our work relies on dedicated volunteers who selflessly contribute their time to serve the profession. With no paid staff and no intention to profit from our events, we depend on the generous support of individuals who share our belief in creating inclusive and supportive spaces for enjoyable, affordable, and valuable professional development.
If you appreciate our work, kindly consider making a recurring or one-time donation to help us continue our mission. Thank you!
