Your guide to the Olympics: Who to watch and when

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games have finally arrived, and the Australian team is gearing up to break their record gold-medal haul – 17 – from Tokyo.

This year’s Australian Olympic team, led by champion cyclist Anna Meares, has 460 athletes across 33 sports – 231 are making their debut. Here’s a run-down of the tournament.

How can I watch or listen?

This is the first time since the London 2012 Olympic Games that the Nine Network, The Australian Financial Review's parent company, will broadcast the global tournament.

This means you can catch the Games on Nine’s radio stations including 2GB and 3AW, watch on Channel Nine, 9Now, and streaming service Stan.

What time will the events be on?

The Olympic Games are in France, which means some of your favourite events may run in the early hours of the morning. Sydney is eight hours ahead of Paris. When it is 9am in Paris, it is 5pm in Sydney.

With many medal events happening in the evening, that will be the wee hours of the morning for Aussie fans.

When are the ceremonies?

The Opening Ceremony will take place on Paris’ River Seine on July 27 at 3.30am (AEST).

The Closing Ceremony will run at the Stade de France after the women’s marathon. This is expected to be about 4am (AEST) on August 12.
