Your guide to New-Year English!

The new year is a time for lots of content on the topic of making changes and beginning anew. Below are a few expressions you are sure to hear in the next few weeks!

To turn over a new leaf -??start to act or behave in a better or more responsible way.

Eg. Last year I didn't really devote enough?time to my English, but this year I'm going to turn over a new leaf.

--------------

To go back to square one - to start from the beginning after something was unsuccessful

Eg. The learning techniques I've been using just haven't worked, so I think it's time to go back to square one and rethink my study plan.

--------------

Out with the old and in with the new - This classic idiom is all about making a new start – by getting rid of old things, and replacing them with new things instead.

Eg. The new year is a time for out with the old ways of doing things, which haven't worked,?and in with the new!

--------------

A breath of fresh air -?a person or thing that constitutes a refreshing change.

Eg. Doing the Communicate with Confidence English coaching program was like a breath of fresh air!

--------------

Nothing ventured, nothing gained -?without taking a bit of a risk or facing a challenge, you can’t expect things to change or improve.

Eg. I think I'll make?some changes with my English studies.?Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

If you're obervant you might notice a reoccuring theme in the examples above??????
