Happy Friday, LinkedIn community. The sun is shining, the weekend is approaching and I'm still thinking about the lively discussion at this week's Redefining the Core event.

In case you missed it, we held our Redefining the Core panel discussion at 621 Capitol Mall in Downtown Sacramento. Panelists Tony Whittaker , Kevin Dumler , Nikky Mohanna and Michael Ault discussed the future of Sacramento's urban core.

Controversial El Dorado Hills proposal withdrawn

According to El Dorado County, Dermody Properties withdrew plans Thursday for Project Frontier, a two-building industrial project of more than 4 million square feet for an undisclosed tenant, on undeveloped land south of El Dorado Hills Business Park.

Because of the location, the center would've added hundreds of truck trips to Latrobe Road, which would be the fastest connection to Highway 50.

That was a principal source of concern for members of Citizens in Support of El Dorado Hills, a group formed to oppose Project Frontier. Read more


Real estate news roundup

Senior Reporter Ben van der Meer has had a busy week. In addition to covering Project Frontier and moderating our Redefining the Core event, he's been on top of a variety of notable real estate stories.

For starters: A new owner for two office buildings in Rancho Cordova acknowledged it's a tough time to be in that sector.

"The office market is down quite a bit," said Marco Chavez, whose Burlingame company, Chavez Management Group, Inc. ,?bought both?10901 Gold Center Drive and 2868 Prospect Park Drive in recent weeks. "There's only one tenant in one, and only two in the other." Read more

Also: After a?foreclosure, pandemic and a few revisions, Township Nine is an active infill project again.

Developers? 29th Street Capital , partner Bridge Investment Group and Sacramento city leaders this week kicked off a first phase?of 372 residential units for the project on mostly undeveloped land in the city's River District. Read more


It's all about experiences

From arcades to indoor trampoline parks, a variety of entertainment-related tenants have filled big-box vacancies in recent years. Those businesses appeal to landlords because they offer experiences that can't easily be disrupted by e-commerce.

Here are two of the latest examples from this week's headlines.

For starters: A Southern California-based chain is entering the area with an indoor playground that could open in the City of Rancho Cordova later this year.

That chain, called Kids Empire , will fill 12,506 square feet within Mills Shopping Center in the Folsom Boulevard corridor of Rancho Cordova, according to online leasing materials. It will fill a space previously occupied by a?Salvation Army Thrift Store & Donation Center. Read more

Also: An entertainment chain is opening its first California location in a former Ross Dress for Less site in Carmichael.

Jaswinder Singh?is planning to open 810 Billiards & Bowling by early next year at the?Crestview Village?shopping center on Manzanita Avenue. Read more

Local real estate investor Ethan Conrad owns both centers.

For starters: Matthew and?Siobhan Oliver decided to close Oliver's Brewhouse & Grill in downtown Lincoln, months after the business was listed for sale. Read more

Also: A cafe chain known for its tea-based beverages and healthy meals is planning a second Sacramento-area location.

Tea Bar & Fusion Cafe, also known as TBar, will fill 2,846 square feet in Rocklin's Blue Oaks Town Center, according to online leasing materials. Read more
