Not Your Grandpa's Fire Equipment
MSA and Motorola Solutions have revolutionized communication for firefighters.
The new MSA G1 SCBA unit is designed with safety in mind, allowing users to directly connect to their Motorola APX radio via Bluetooth protocol. Using dual microphones built within the MSA G1 regulator, the system recognizes and eliminates all background noise. That’s right, this is a smart regulator. (After all, we’ve had smart phones for years – why not smart safety equipment?) This allows firefighters to focus on the job at hand, and not spend those critical moments repeating themselves for dispatch or incident command.
Speaking of smart equipment, the APX line of radios aren’t really radios. I consider them smart radios. These are more like IT equipment for communication than they are voice radios. With features like Mission Critical Bluetooth, WiFi, OTAP (Over The Air Programming), OTAR (Over The Air Rekeying), Text Messaging, and GPS – This isn’t your grandpa’s “walkie-talkie”.
With the G1 Respirator, MSA says their top priority is to provide clear communication while on scene. Motorola Solutions has been doing the same thing since the 1920’s.
According to MSA, here is a list of the compatible radios. At this time, it’s important to note that only the Motorola APX line of radios will work:
APX 4000, APX 5000, APX 6000, APX 7000, APX 8000.
A user manual can be downloaded from MSA’s website.
