Are Your Goals Worthy of Your Time
If you are thinking of setting a personal self-development goal and wonder if it’s going to give you the stretch you are looking for, here’s a few hints:
A "Worthy Goal" (or you might call it an aspiration) is thrilling, important and daunting.
·??????Thrilling because it lights you up and supports who you want to be in the world
·??????Important because it will allow you to give more to the world than you will take
·??????Daunting because it’s scary, it will take you to the edge of your confidence and competence
Have some fun with this and try it out with a first draft.??Then, apply three tests:
·??????Spouse-ish test: What does your significant other say about this goal???
·??????FoSo test: “For the sake of….” Articulate the why? How does it give more to the world?
·??????Goldilocks test: Not too big, not too small, but just right.?
I completed three drafts of my goal in about an hour, and it is quite interesting how it changed to become much more meaningful. A question I ask myself is “What do I need to consider about myself to achieve this goal?” Still working on the answer.????Also, I would say that the goal might not be written perfectly yet and that’s okay because it’s the movement forward that is important.
