Is Your But Getting in Your Way?

Is Your But Getting in Your Way?

Our buts get in the way. And sometimes, we don't even notice them because they become a way of rationalizing how we should challenge ourselves or become a more effective leader. ???

I was but-spotting this week. I caught myself and some of my clients or friends.

My buts that got in the way:

  • I want to take a jewelry class, but I don't know if I will be any good.?
  • My business is going well, but what if people find out I don't always have the correct answers??
  • I want to approach the CEO I used to work with, but I have not talked to her for a long time, and I feel like she won't appreciate me bothering her.

Once I paid attention, there were buts everywhere! ??

I noticed my client's buts:

  • I know I shouldn't jump in and resolve the escalation, but I know more than my team, and I will resolve it quicker than anyone else.
  • I discovered that I am at the lowest in the pay band and have been a director for five years, but it is the wrong time to ask for more money.?
  • I want to ask if I could lead the project, but I need more experience before I feel confident I know what to do.?

Buts are sneaky because we stop noticing them, and they allow us to remain comfortable in our current state. ???

Our buts keep us from fully committing to our full potential or who we want to become.?

Are your buts getting in your way??

Pay attention this week to see what you are butting instead of taking the action you need to take today.

I love the statement - If you don't look back at your past self and cringe, you aren't growing. Your buts may be inhibiting your ability to develop.?

What are you trying today that is inspiring your growth? ??

AND, don't let your but get in the way. ??

YES!! Buts give us the opportunity to choose inaction or failure before we ever actually try to choose success! Loved this article!
