Your Future Clients Are Currently Doing Business With Another Advisor

I had a personal experience about a month ago that I thought would be relevant to share with you to help you think about how you acquire clients, as well as serve them.

To set the tone for the story -?Your future clients are currently doing business with another advisor.

The story begins with a phone call from an old friend who is recently divorced and she wanted advice on a very particular investment strategy.

After catching up for a few minutes it turns out she currently doesn't have health insurance for herself (She's 55), nor her two kids (teenagers). It's not like she couldn't afford it either and she more than likely meets most, if not all, financial advisors Ideal Client profiles.

Right after she told me this I could tell it was something that was bothering her as I got all the excuses in the book,?"I've just been so busy... I know I need to do this... I'll get to this soon."

At this point, I went into accountability mode and made her promise me that before the end of the day, she would purchase health insurance for her and her kids and confirm with me once it's been completed.

Next, I asked about her current financial advisor and if he knew that she didn't have health insurance.

Her response,?"No, he probably just assumes we have health insurance."

Interesting. The individual she has hired to ensure her wealth is protected and grows so she can live her present lifestyle and create the future she wants does not know that she doesn't have health insurance.

So I'll circle back with how I started this and say again,?your future clients are currently doing business with another advisor.

Your job is to steal, or I prefer the term?rescue, Ideal Clients from other advisors.
