Your Forgotten Superpower: The Content Audit

During the lockdown (remember that?), we couldn't make much content. So we were forced to dive deep into our sock drawer to see what we'd already made, and what could be re-purposed to make it fresh again.

We looked on old hard drives, went through old blog posts, even searched through old decks to see if there was anything we could find to keep the wheels turning. We had quite the backlog and it took a while, but at the end of the exercise we were surprised to discover we had a lot of stuff that could indeed be refreshed into new social content.

And we learned a lesson: you don't always have to be creating. Sure, that's a great mindset, but also remember that your library probably has a treasure trove of inspiration, ideas, and things you've made that can be slipped into the content calendar. It's one easy way to take some pressure off.

FIRST STEP:

Look in every nook and cranny of your company for content that's already been made. Go into the Way Back Time Machine, remembering that content can take a zillion forms:

  • Blog posts
  • Vids
  • Banner Ads
  • Print Ads
  • Brochures
  • Trade Show/Event Materials
  • Presentations/decks
  • Infographics
  • Ebooks or PDFs
  • GIFs and crazy memes
  • Old Social Posts
  • Audio recordings/podcasts
  • Even old marketing materials

Granted, some of this would've been better if it were left buried. You might see old antiquated messaging, stumble on forgotten logos, or see decks that should have never have seen the light of day. But I'll bet you a coffee that you’ll also unearth inspiring messaging, ideas for future content, or discover a motherlode?that might just need a simple refresh before relaunch.?

Save it all in one big digital pile that can be looked at and filtered through later. It might just be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.?
