Your First Step in Personal Growth: Hope, Faith and Trust

Last night you missed an amazing speech by Dr. David Lohman. Had you been sitting in the chair next to me you would have been inspired to jump up and yell, “Hallelujah!” No, before you think it was a sermon, it was not. I will admit, he was talking about Faith, Hope and Trust. But Dr. Lohman was not talking about Faith, Hope and Trust in God. He was talking about Faith, Hope and Trust in ourselves.

On Jan 1st of every year millions of people decide they are going to lose weight, exercise or fix some other problem area in their life. But what happens three days later? They quit. They quit because they did not complete step one of any change you want to make in your life.

The first step in changing our Self is to have Faith, Hope and Trust in our Self.

What is Hope?

By definition, Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. That is a fair enough definition, however Dr. Lohman viewed Hope in a much more powerful way.

Hope is having Faith.

What is Faith?

By definition, Faith is complete trust or confidence in someone or something. This definition comes really close to Dr. Lohman’s view of Faith. He saw it as evidence of things not seen.

Faith is having Trust.

 What is Trust?

Trust is a firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.

Trust must come from within you.

 What is Step One?

Step one to completing your goals is not to have goals. The first step is to have the Hope, Faith and Trust that you can follow thru with anything you decide on. It is to Trust that you will hold yourself accountable to ANY decision you make.

 What’s Next?

 Trust in Yourself
