Your first Copywriting client in 60 days

Your first Copywriting client in 60 days

Writing copy is one my favourite things to do, whether its for a client or myself.

Its the skill that doesn’t need much to get started, yet pays very well.

A laptop and Google docs is all you need

This one skill is what led my friend to start flying first class at 22 years old

But before we even get into the meat of this email, I want to stress one thing.

Theres a certain skill, a trait, that you need before even thinking about starting this journey.

That skill is your ability to focus.

Its no secret that our attention spans have been destroyed in the last few years, and its only getting worse.

If this is a problem for you, it needs to be addressed - pronto.

Writing high quality copy demands a sharp mind.

A mind that hasn’t been filled with useless TikTok music or memes.

Some copywriters even go as far as chewing nicotine gum to focus better.

And i’ll admit, I thought about trying it.

But in reality, all you need is to dedicate the first 45mins of your mornings to writing.

A laptop, black coffee, and water.

Thats it.

So, how do you get your first client in 60 days?

I’m glad you asked.

It starts with mastering the most effective copywriting framework out there, PAS.

Problem, Agitate, Solution

Copywriting is just an extension of marketing, and marketing is just extenuating a problem or pain point a prospect has, and digging deep.

Your copy needs to speak to your clients or your own ideal avatar.

An avatar is the perfect customer or client you’re speaking to in all your marketing material.

They need to feel heard.

And the methods in which they do that are a direct results of PAS

So, like with most things in life, it starts with the problem.

Humans are naturally drawn to negative connotation - its in our DNA.

We’re conditioned to upkeep all conditions of our survival and thrawt anything that threatens our existence.

So when a poster is telling us that our diet is killing us, and that we need to change - we keep reading.

The fitness industry has perfected this.

They point out our pain points and problems to get us to buy their products.

“Are you tired all the time?”

“Get rid of anxiety with our best-selling X”

Using your pains like this, allows them to go in for the kill and deliver the next letter of the framework: A, for agitate.

Agitation is crucial since your ideal client or customer wont internalise their pain just yet.

You need to twist the knife in there for their body to react, and then move onto the next stage: Solution.

For example, let’s say plaque can lead to gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss.

If that’s not enough to get them interested in your product, you could also mention that gum disease has been linked to other health problems like heart disease and stroke.

Finally, offer a solution to the pain.

This is where you introduce your product or service and explain how it can help solve their specific challenge.

Be sure to focus on the benefits rather than the features so that your reader can easily see how your solution will make their life better.

In our toothbrush example, you might talk about how your product removes plaque more effectively than traditional toothbrushes, making it easier for them to keep their teeth healthy and avoid gum disease.

You could also mention that it’s gentle on sensitive gums and guarantees money-back satisfaction.

A money-back guarantee or a free trial is a perfect example of risk reversal, and we see it everywhere.

After a few weeks of practising PAS by writing copy for your favourite brands, you can move on to stage 2.

This is where you utilise the new model that freelancers are using to land clients

The rev-share model

And it's how the 22-year-old copywriter flies first class.

Essentially, it involves writing copy for a client who already generating revenue, and simply taking a % of any new revenue you make them

for example, if your email campaigns make an extra $50k, you’ll earn 10%

Leaving you with $5,000 every month.
