When we look back at the previous year and the challenges we faced and overcome; the question must be, “how did we not identify and prevent these things from happening?”
In essence, did we knowingly allow these things to happen, or were they unpreventable?
The best way to find the correct answers is to revisit mainly from memory. It is only those events which shook us the most which we will hold most clarity, with others only being sketchy at best.
I only ever worry about the things which I have control of, trying my best to stay alert in readiness. This can be described as being a tad paranoid, but these actions have mostly assisted me in doing my job to the best of my ability.
It does not matter how much we try to advertise that the Blame Culture of yester-year is not how “we” conduct our business processes; because no-one believes you, even if they are smiling while nodding in outwardly agreement. If this was the case; your business would never fire anyone, and you would ban the use of any financial forecasting spreadsheets. Management Meetings would be treated as a “jolly,” with Profit and Loss would be considered an “F” word. Your training budget would not be something you expect the Chancellor to deliver, neither would he or she provide you with any bonus figures.
Now that 2017 has arrived, the time has arrived for some ownerships to be decided. Get that calendar out and send out those important Management Review Meeting Invitations.
GOOD LUCK!
