The unemployment rate in Canada has steadily decreased in recent months, but this trend may shift due to the unpredictable economic situation. Losing one's job is not a disgrace, as it has occurred to many skilled individuals; however, it's essential to understand the reasons behind it. I'd like you to develop a thoughtful exit statement to help you navigate interviews, networking events, or casual conversations with friends and acquaintances.

Your Exit Statement concisely answers the question:?"Why are you looking for a new job?"?

Think of this as your "press release" since it communicates your transition to the world. An effective exit statement is concise, non-defensive, and delivers a positive tone. When appropriate, it indicates that your departure was not due to any fault of your own. This is meant solely for your verbal delivery and should not be in any form on LinkedIn or in a resume.

Please share your exit statement with your references, ensuring that you and they provide the exact reason for leaving your previous employer.

Your exit statement includes two essential components:

  1. Why you left your job??Keep this part as short as possible. Never say anything negative about your previous boss or company.
  2. What position are you looking for??Sound positive and enthusiastic. Mention your qualifications, but keep it reasonably brief.

Here's an example: Following the merger of Company X and Company Y, positions at Company Z, including mine, were eliminated. I am now exploring opportunities in the X industry that will make the most of my extensive management experience and my engineering and manufacturing background.?

It is essential to rehearse this exit statement to present it in a relaxed, friendly, and confident manner to your audience.
