Is your employer brand working for your business?

So, you want to attract the best people in the world to your business. But how do you stand out to candidates??

It all starts with a strong employer brand.?

Your employer brand is how you’re perceived by your market, and it’s crucial in not only attracting great new candidates but also retaining talent and keeping your team strong.?

An effective employer brand isn’t built overnight.?

Realistically speaking, how you choose to portray your brand will impact every aspect of your business – so getting it right is paramount to your success.?

In broad terms, your employer brand consists of your values, how you do things, what you offer employees, and what sets you apart from the competition.

Here’s how to distill all of that into a clear strategy.?

Ready??

  1. Be upfront about what you need. Run a thorough audit of where you sit in the market and how your employer brand compares to competitors. What are you missing out on? What are things candidates repeatedly ask about that you don’t offer? Work closely with your recruitment partner to identify opportunities here.?

  1. Have a clear and honest EVP (Employee Value Proposition). This is essentially a breakdown of why people would want to work for your company, as well as what you expect from employees. Be realistic about what you need and what you can offer in return.?

  1. Build a target candidate persona. Who is your ideal employee? Start with the people you already have on your team – what are the things they care about or that attracted them to your business? What would make them want to recommend your company to their peers??

  1. Reassess what you offer. Maybe you offer some benefits you think are in high demand in the market, but when last did you assess their efficacy in attracting candidates? Pay attention to trends and look at what other companies offer, then go back to the drawing board and see where yours fall short (or stand out)

  1. Examine your application process. Even the best employer brand won’t stand up to a bad application and hiring process. How can you streamline and simplify the experience for candidates? Where are you falling flat on communication or feedback??

  1. Involve the entire team. Everyone in your business should understand and believe in your employer brand. That goes from the people right at the very top to the newest intern you hire. In order to achieve this, you need to listen to the people in your team. What do they care about? What do they think makes your business a great place to work, and what can improve??

Your employer brand is the first step to attracting the right people to your team.
