Your Electric Bill: Plug IN

Your Electric Bill: Plug IN

Hello!?

Let's talk about thermodynamics.

No, wait!?Come back!?

It's relevant, I promise.

The first law of thermodynamics was devised byGabrielle émilie Le Tonnelier de Breteuil, Marquise du Chatelet, in 1740.?She discovered the power of kinetic energy - the idea that if we are not using our energy, it's still right there in potential form.?Energy exists. It can't be created or destroyed, just converted to different forms.

émilie had no way of predicting Zoom calls, status meetings, progress reports and all the various ways that our current work world can drain our energy.?She could never have pictured beige office cubicles, fluorescent lights, and repetitive data entry roles.?But her principle ABSOLUTELY applies to our own energy and how we interact with our work and our life outside of work.?

As the summer tempts us outside, our will to remain inside, at our desks ebbs away.?Many of us are booking vacations or planning weekends at the cottage or just time away from work.?We all feel the need to rebalance our energy and un-plug from work.

Here's the thing - I actually want you to PLUG-IN.?Plug-in to the things that energize you.?Tap into your potential energy by connecting to your energy source - wherever you are.?

Think about why you got into teaching, banking, or insurance.?What was important about it to you??Reconnect to that feeling and those ideas.?Think about ways to bring that energy back into your work life.?

Find ways to plug-in to your potential energy.

And yes.?Turn off your work email while you're away.?You should definitely NOT plug-in to that.

Untill next time!

Bill

MICROSTEP

In my book, Electric Life, I've created?twelve tiny steps forward.?As you implement these small actions into your daily life, you’ll understand the choices you can make to close the gap between the person you are and the person you want to be. In choosing your path deliberately and joyfully, you can discover, keep, and even build energy to live your own electric life.

This microstep comes from the second section of my book.?It's called "Be Brilliant" and these next few months will be talking about ways for you to shine and really own your energy.

Ways for you to be inspiring.??

The word "inspire" comes from "spire" or breath.?To inspire someone is to basically "breathe into" them.?To give them life....or energy.?

So when you plug in or tap into what inspires you, you'll find new energy, happiness, and motivation.

Plugging in to this kind of energy affects changes in our lives and effects the people around us.?When you inspire YOURSELF you can then offer inspiration to others.?(Think putting on an oxygen mask in an airplane...you first, then the person you travel with.)

Once we're aware of how we exchange energy with others, we can make sure that we are giving the energy we want to receive.?

We gain energy when we’re honest, transparent and?truthful.?Are you presenting your real self to the world??To your colleagues?

We gain energy when how we act is aligned with our values and passions.?Are you inspired by what you do??Do you have things in your day that "breathe life" into you?

When all these things happen at the same time, when you plug in, the return on your energy investment is always beyond belief.

Three Tips

Here are a few things you can think about when you want to plug-in:

  1. Decide what your desired results are, at work and in life.
  2. What inspires you (breathes life into you) at work?
  3. Give the energy you want to receive!
