Your Duty of Care and Responsibility to be a great communicator

Presuming you are very good at what you do, it is my firm belief, that even if you don't believe you can be a great speaker and confident communicator, it is your Duty of Care and Responsibilty to do your absolute very best to develop and master those skills. If you don't, despite all of your great ideas, knowledge and positive intentions, someone else is highly likely to step in and seize the opportunity, and do so with far less positively impactful ideas than yours.

There are countless examples, past and certainly present, where leaders in politics and in business rise to the top, not always because of their policies or their actual abilities, but because they are able to gain connection and chemistry with those they are talking to through their speaking and communication skills. People are naturally drawn to great communicators.

So, I hereby invite you to take a moment to reflect on the above and get a real sense of how that resonates for you. How has that / does that situation impact upon you and those around you? What would you like to do and what can you do to step up and bring your positive impact and presence into the situation? What are your core values? What impact do you want to have on others? What will your legacy be? How will you make your mark? How will you avoid someday in the future saying, I just didn't know what to say, or what to do to bring about change.

The key areas to help you gain focus and discipline to get things done and bring about positive change are...

1: Gratitude: Take stock of all the things you are grateful for in your life. Give daily thanks for those things and ask how you can grow those aspects and how you can positively impact on others. Note when you or others create a downward spiral of energy and conversation, and when you and others have an upward trend in what you say, how you say it and the energy you create in the room.

2: The quality of your Voice: Give yourself the biggest gift by becoming consciously aware of the positive impact the quality of your voice can have on your ability to engage and connect with others. It is priceless, but so many throw this knowledge and opportunity away. See here how to master your voice in order to have maximum impact (this is for everyone).

3: Your Body Language: From your facial expressions, eye contact, hand gestures and posture, you can connect with people and gain chemistry. Ensure that your body language is congruent with your message and that you are being genuine and authentic. We call this the Gift of You.

4: Voice Visualistaion: This key skill is all about your ability to fully appreciate and convey the meaning behind every single word that you choose to speak. This is in essence your ability to lift words off the page and literally breathe life into every single one. My personal hero for this skill is the BBC broadcaster and natural historian, Sir David Attenborough. The article I wrote explains how Sir David works his Mastery, perfected over many decades, as an excellent communicator.

5: Your Leadership/Executive Presence: This is all about how you choose to show up in a genuinely authentic way. This arena is a psycholgically fascinating one, because who you are today is highly likley not who you are truly capable of being (due to limiting beliefs and quite often excuses or defensive perceived reality, and of course our life experinces to date, which can be negatively impacted by those around us). You have the power to be you and the best version of you. Here's a helping hand with that goal firmly in mind.

6: The Art of Communication: With the vision and goal to help you have all of the above and more at your fingertips, we have designed and produced the ArtofComms app as the coach in your pocket.
