I was at a business conference this past weekend and we had a lot of great discussion on how our beliefs are actually habits and habits can be changed or created, hence we can transform our negative beliefs into positive ones that benefit us in our lives.
It is so profound when I think about helping the fellow dog owners with their dogs. I tell people often that “dogs are fine.”, and people usually agree that “I know I need the training.”, but from working with dog owners I noticed it’s not just about “training”, a lot of it is about “transforming the beliefs you have about your dog(s)”.
I like asking this question to dog owners: what will happen if you cannot help your dog?
I’ve gotten some interesting answers:
I will just live with it I guess…
I don’t think I can keep my dog if I can’t solve this…
That’s a really hard question…
I don’t know…
Recently, when I asked a couple who just adopted 2 “unruly” dogs (47lbs and 50lbs, so they are very powerful as well, can potentially hurt a person or dog when they’re being unruly), what will happen if they cannot help their dogs, their answer is (paraphrased) “We don’t believe in failure, we know we can help them! We’re open minded and committed to do anything as long as it will help the dogs, we just need training and guidance, and we can do it!”
Wow, aren’t that amazing? Of course they’re one of my most awesome clients and following through all the homework and practicing everything I’ve taught them. And I can tell you, that they will experience transformational results with their dogs very soon, simply because…
They believe in themselves and their dogs, and with that belief, homework is no longer just a “chore”, it is the pathway to have the dream dog they’ve always wanted and with that positive energy and attitude, their dogs’ unruly attitude will change. The behavior change will follow naturally.
I still remember some of my clients told me that they could never imagine what their dog can achieve when we first start working together, and now they see so much potential and possibilities once they work with me and seeing the transformation in their dog(s).
Your dog isn’t the problem, believe in yourself and your dog!
If your dog or someone you know have a dog that very unruly, going bonkers all the time, make sure to get in touch with me.
