Your Definition Of Success

Your Definition Of Success

“Try not to become a man of success. Rather become a man of value.”
-Albert Einstein

How do you define success??

Throw out the definition of success you’ve been programmed to identify with–society has told us success is measured by the balance of your bank account, the size of your house, the number of businesses you’ve started, the size of your network, the brands of clothes you wear, or the title you wear at work.

While those metrics can certainly measure one definition of success, is that the definition of success YOU want to hold your Self to?

It’s not my place to tell you how to define success for your authentic life—my definition is not necessarily right for you. Your authentic life is unique to you and it probably requires a unique definition of “success” constructed by metrics aligned with your authentic life.

Shoot, you may not even want to think of “success” in your authentic life–maybe throw the word out of your personal dictionary!?!

If you do want to have a definition of success but are clouded by the definition you’ve been taught to this point, look to Bronnie Ware’s research highlighting the top five regrets of the dying:

  1. I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
  2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
  3. I wish I had the courage to express my feelings.
  4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
  5. I wish I had let myself be happier.

Allow these to help you begin to define what is most important to you and how you can create your own definition of success that is less about things, awards, or status—unless that is authentically YOU and that is good–and more about quality of life and value.

One day I’ll share my definition of success but for now, I want you to have a blank canvas to create yours.

See you tomorrow and keep pursuing,

JC
