Operation Brock
With the busy holiday season approaching, Operation Brock is being deployed on the M20 in Kent starting from Monday, 16th December. This traffic management system is designed to keep traffic moving smoothly while balancing the needs of both freight vehicles heading to the Channel ports and local road users during peak travel periods.
What is Operation Brock?
Operation Brock is a contraflow system that allows lorries travelling to Dover or the Eurotunnel to queue on one side of the motorway while other traffic uses the opposite side. This system is activated during periods of high demand, ensuring minimal disruption for freight, residents, and holiday travellers.
Key Details for Freight Operators
Freight heading to Dover or Eurotunnel must be ready to follow Operation Brock’s guidelines, including having the correct documents (such as ENS or customs paperwork).
Drivers should check their routes before setting off to avoid unnecessary delays and ensure they’re compliant with traffic management rules.
Border-ready vehicles will be prioritised, so make sure your documentation is in order to keep moving efficiently.
Advice for Other Road Users
Non-freight traffic, including holiday travellers, can use the contraflow lanes, but delays may occur during peak times.
Plan your journey in advance and allow extra time, especially if you’re travelling to the Channel ports or through Kent.
