Welcome to Your Daily Bread for May 26- June 1, 2024, by Rev. Apelu Poe, Ph.D!

Key Torah Code for this First Week of the Personal Witness Season:

“Pincas” (Phinehas): Numbers 25:10-29:40

Basic Principle of Our Judaic-Christian Faith:

When the Spirit of God comes upon us, and ignites that Divine spark of God in each one of us, then it’ll transform our fearful people into fearless witnesses of what we can do to build God’s kingdom when we’re empowered by God’s Spirit

“The Bible says very much the same thing. Moses in his last words to the ancient Israelites before he died, said it plainly: “It is not hidden from you, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven that you should say, who shall go up for us to heaven and bring it to us that we may hear it and do it? Nor is it beyond the sea that you should say, who shall go over the sea for us and bring it to us that we may hear it and do it? But the word is very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart that you may do it.” The Bible Codes: The Countdown I’ll get to the point in a minute.

But, first, let me say Talofa, Welcome, and Shabbat Shalom to you, my friends in the name of “Yeshua HaMashiach” Jesus the Messiah! And through the power of God’s Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit). As they say in Samoan, Malo le soifua manuia! Faafetai fo’i le fai tatalo! Congratulations on your good health! Thanks also for the prayers. May our God always grant us his lovingkindness!

Getting back to the point. If you have followed God’s calendar, which dictates and foretells the events of our lives to which the above quote refers, you will know that from May 26 to June 1, we will enter the first week of the Personal Witness Season.

What is a Personal Witness season? Well, just as the word itself suggests, Personal Witness season is a time when God has called us to acknowledge what we can do when we’re empowered by the anointing of God’s Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “For the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour,” (Isaiah 61:1-2).

This is why Jesus did not forget to remind his disciples and us, “But you shall receive power when the Spirit of God has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth,” (Acts 1:8).

Before we take a look at the Torah portion for this first week of the Personal Witness season, let me also say “thank you” to all of you, my regular readers. You’re a fantastic community of believers made up of Jews, Christians, Muslims, as well as people of other faiths. You are amazing because you take the time to access my Torah-Bible Codes teaching on Facebook and LinkedIn which has now become a top-performing weekly post on social media.

It is, indeed, a great inspiration for me to see that so many of you around the world have been following my teaching on social media from week to week. I call my Torah gift for you this first week of the Personal Witness Season “Your Daily Bread for May 26 to June 1, 2024.”

Why am I saying this? Well, for those of you who have been following my teaching, I’m saying this because, as you might have noticed, I have been using this same gift that God has given me for the past 40 years to help guide the destiny of those whose spiritual welfare God has entrusted to me. And now that I have retired from the ordained ministry in July 2021, I want you to have free access to it.

My pastoral desire is simply this: For you to be the person God has created you to be. My prayer, then, is that you would be able to live according to God’s time so that you may discern God’s Divine path for your life and how it is that God wants you to live to best receive his blessing and shine his holy light.

Your Benefits from My Torah Gift I Can Give You This Week

So what exactly can you expect from the Torah gift I’m giving you this first week of the Personal Witness season? Well, the first and foremost is self-awareness.

Why self-awareness at such a precarious time for all of us, a time fraught with disagreements about what our values mean to us as members of God’s global family? Because, as we’ve been saying all this time, life transformation will never happen without self-awareness.

You see, it all comes down to the flow of information from the universe (God), the dynamic of your brain's plank field, and the feedforward and feedback process that is involved in it.

The physics behind all this is not hard to understand. You’re receiving the information from the universe (God), and you are feeding that information forward into your brain’s plank field through a process scientists call quantum oscillation of all your protons, neutrons, and electrons.

Remember, everything that you see in God’s universe (metaphysics), from people to planets, from planets to stars, from stars to galaxies…etc. etc. is composed of matter. Matter may be defined as any substance that has mass and occupies space. At their quantum or sib-atomic level are these 3 sub-atomic particles: protons (positive electrically charged particles, electrons (negative electrically charged particles, and neutrons which help stabilize the flow of these metaphysical entities in space and time.

The same thing is true with us, human beings. We are each composed of matter which consists of numerous cells. Each one of these cells at its quantum or sub-atomic level is made up of hundreds of protons, neutrons, and electrons. So you are receiving the information from the universe (God), and you forward it into your brain’s plank field through this process called quantum oscillation of all your protons, neutrons, and electrons. Your brain plank field will interpret it and will feed it back to you in such a way that will enable you to say, Aha, I now see it with my naked eyes. Now I know. That’s what self-awareness simply is.

Here’s the point. Until we are made aware of who we are: men-God, or women-God, (refer to Genesis 4), and what we need to do to help make this world a better place for all of us, we will never be able to get out of this geo-political, socio-economic turmoil that we now find ourselves in, no matter where we are in the world today.

So the Torah gift I’m giving you this first week of the Personal Witness season will help you become aware of the fact that when the Spirit of God comes upon us, and ignites that Divine spark of God in us, it’ll transform our fearful people into fearless witnesses of what we could do to build God’s kingdom when we’re empowered by the Spirit of God

Perhaps it is for this reason that on Thursday, May 16, U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, had the boldness of the heart to meet face-to-face with Arab and Palestinian Americans amid rising tensions with Biden’s administration, according to two sources familiar with the meeting.

The gathering has been in the works for about a month and the leaders plan to urge the Biden administration to make several policy changes towards the Israel-Hamas war. Several of the leaders slated to attend requested a meeting with Blinken, and they worked to find a mutually agreeable date, the second source explained.

The meeting comes as tensions between the Biden administration and the Palestinian, Muslim and Arab American communities are on the rise. It also comes as the administration struggles with its efforts to reach out to Arab American voters who have taken a general stance of boycotting such meetings and voting uncommitted in the presidential primaries.

Pro-Palestinian college protests calling for an end to US support for Israel’s military have sprung up on campuses across the country in recent weeks. On many college campuses, chants broke out such as: “Biden, Biden you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide.”

And while Biden halted one shipment of bombs to Israel last week and said he would halt some other shipments if Israel launches a major invasion of the southern Gazan city of Rafah, the administration also says that US military support for Israel’s defence will continue.

The Biden opposition from some Muslim, Arab American and progressive voters over the war in Gaza is a mounting problem for the president’s reelection campaign as the November elections approach. The last few meetings between Biden administration officials and members of these communities have not paved the way for growing collaboration.

Blinken has met with members of these communities twice since October 7, and Friday will mark his third meeting. The meeting this week is consistent with his previous engagements, said the second source, adding that Blinken has also met with Jewish leaders many times. His last meeting with Palestinian Americans in February was marked by several invitees deciding not to attend, convinced that they could not shift the administration’s policy.

Biden hosted several Muslim leaders at the White House to discuss Gaza last month but the meeting was upended after its sole Palestinian American participant Dr.Thaer Ahmad, who has travelled to Gaza to treat wounded civilians walked out in protest after handing Biden a letter from an 8-year-old orphan girl living in Rafah.

Why am I sharing this with you on this first week of the Personal Witness season? Because it highlights the importance of being aware of the fact that the evil that we see in the world today can be brought to an end. How, by the supremacy of God’s Spirit over one’s desires.

It’s no wonder, why King Solomon put it this way, saying, “The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit” (Proverbs 14:8).

The second benefit that my Torah gift will give you this first week of the Personal Witness season is self-confidence. It’ll help you develop your self-confidence so that you will never lose hope no matter how impossible the situation might be.

Here’s the thing we all deal with highs and lows in life. Even as kids, we experience a variety of emotions that have a direct impact on our choices, and the way we think about ourselves.

For example, a bad experience can result in negative thinking which can be detrimental to a young person’s self-confidence and outlook on life. That’s why positive thinking is so powerful not just for adults but kids as well.

Maintaining a positive attitude can be challenging at times, but through practice and encouragement, it becomes a skill that can shape and transform young lives.

Just as you exercise your swing before hitting the ball, it’s important to practice things that can promote positive thinking.

Why is this important? Because our minds are valuable tools, therefore, maintaining a healthy and positive headspace can improve confidence and drive in all aspects of life.

So the Torah gift I’m giving you this first week of the Personal Witness season will help you to never abandon your hopes in despair because of how things look on the outside. Why? Because with God everything shall be possible.

Perhaps it is for this reason, that on Thursday, May 16, the U.S. Pentagon publicly announced that humanitarian aid will soon begin flowing onto the Gaza shore through the new pier anchored to the beach and will begin reaching those in need almost immediately.

Sabrina Singh, the Pentagon spokeswoman, told reporters that the U.S. believes there will be no backups in the distribution of the aid, which the United Nations is coordinating.

The U.N., however, said fuel imports have all but stopped and this will make it extremely difficult to deliver aid to Gaza’s people, all 2.3 million of whom are in acute need of food and other supplies after seven months of intense fighting between Israel and Hamas.

Listen again to Farhan Hag’s words, “We desperately need fuel,” U.N. deputy spokesman Farhan Haq said. “It doesn’t matter how the aid comes, whether it’s by sea or whether by land, without fuel, aid won’t get to the people.”

The U.S. military finished installing a floating pier off the Gaza Strip early Thursday, and officials were making final checks before trucks began driving onto the shore to deliver pallets of aid.

The pier project, expected to cost $320 million, was ordered more than two months ago by U.S. President Joe Biden to help starving Palestinians as Israeli restrictions on border crossings and heavy fighting hinder food and other supplies from making it into Gaza.

Fraught with logistical, weather and security challenges, the pier project is not considered a substitute for far cheaper deliveries by land that aid agencies say is much more sustainable.

The boatloads of aid will be deposited at a port facility built by the Israelis just southwest of Gaza City and then distributed by aid groups.

The first cargo ship loaded with food left Cyprus last week and the cargo was transferred to a U.S. military ship, the Roy P. Benavidez, off the coast of Gaza.

Under the new sea route, humanitarian aid is dropped off in Cyprus where it will undergo inspection and security checks at Larnaca port. It is then loaded onto ships and taken about 200 miles (320 kilometres) to the large floating pier built by the U.S. military off the Gaza coast.

Question: Why am I bringing this to your attention? Because it emphasises the importance of maintaining a positive mindset.

It is no wonder why the author of the Book of Hebrews challenged us, saying, “Do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised” (Hebrews 10:35-36).

The third benefit that my Torah gift will give you this first week of the Personal Witness season is a high level of motivation. It’ll help you develop a high level of motivation that propels you forward even in the face of challenges.

Why is this important for us Jews, Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths at this critically important juncture in history?

Because the power of highly motivated individuals or teams is essential for increased productivity, improved performance, and overall success.

Here’s the truth. In the business world, every business owner should strive to have a highly motivated workforce. A company that focuses on motivating its employees and enhancing the employee experience will see several benefits from doing so.

If an employee feels motivated to complete a specific task, they’re also likely to feel more engaged while completing said task.

The same thing is true in our church ministry. A high level of motivation can be linked to high levels of engagement, and a highly engaged workforce can do wonders for the future of your ministry.

So the Torah gift I’m giving you this first week of the Personal Witness season will help you become aware of the fact that when the Spirit of God comes upon us, it’ll empower us to do great things for God, and expect great things from God.

Perhaps it is for this reason that on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, Taiwan’s new President dared to call on China to end the threat of war which is at the heart of a geopolitical rivalry involving the world’s two biggest powers.

Listen again to President Lai Ching-te’s words, “I call on China to stop intimidating Taiwan verbally and militarily, and, together with Taiwan, to shoulder our responsibility to the world to do our utmost to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the region,”

Lai said in his inaugural address on an overcast day in Taipei. It was up to Beijing “to ensure that the world is free from the fear of war,” he said.

The 64-year-old former kidney doctor and ex-vice president said Beijing should hold talks with his government on an equal basis while acknowledging that China was unlikely to give up its attempt to annex the island. He reiterated his previous pledges to maintain the status quo with China.

Lai also repeated Tsai’s position that the Republic of China, Taiwan’s formal name, and the People’s Republic of China are not subordinate to each other. That line got the biggest cheer of his speech from the crowd of dignitaries.

Taipei’s relations with Beijing have become more pressing as China has stepped up military activity near Taiwan, raising the spectre of a conflict.

In his speech, Lai also outlined the key elements of his economic policy in his address, saying his administration would seek to develop Taiwan’s semiconductor, artificial intelligence, military, surveillance technology and communications industries. He also promised to raise wages and maintain a welcoming investment environment.

After Lai’s election victory early this year, Taiwan’s security officials warned Beijing could step up its pressure on him once he takes charge, while also offering economic incentives to those who help further its goal of unification.

Why am I sharing this with you on this first week of the Personal Witness season? Because it highlights the importance of maintaining a high level of motivation to do whatever is required to help make this world a better place for all of us.

It is no wonder why the apostle Paul challenged us, saying, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

The fourth benefit that my Torah gift will give you this first week of the Personal Witness season is moral clarity. It’ll help you be crystal clear on the question of what is right and what is wrong.

Why the need for moral clarity at such a morally and spiritually challenging time as this? Because morality matters, and how we deal with morality affects our whole worldview.

Here’s the thing. Ethics are how we justify moral judgments or assess what is morally right or wrong according to our beliefs. For example, in the school setting, educators need to gird their leadership and decision-making in a firm professional and personal ethics foundation to ensure that education is delivered justly and equitably in their buildings.

The same thing applies to our church ministry. One of the most important things that we have to remember as religious leaders is that we operate in the realm of public trust because everyone trusts us with their most precious possession: the spiritual health of their soul. That means everything that we do has to be of the highest ethical standard.

So the Torah gift I’m giving you this first week of the Personal Witness season will help you understand our need to stand firm for the right thing.

Perhaps it is this need for us to do the right thing that on Pentecost Sunday, May 19, Ireland made a vow to recognize the Palestinian state by the end of May.

Ireland will recognise Palestinian statehood before the end of this month, Simon Harris, Ireland’s premier, has insisted.

Mr Harris made the comments following reports of a diplomatic row with Isaac Herzog, Israeli president, over the Irish plan. He spoke by phone with Mr Herzog on Friday where he set out Ireland’s desire to see an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and urgent and unhindered access to humanitarian aid.

Asked what had transpired in the call with Mr Herzog, Mr Harris said: “I have less than zero interest in getting involved in some sort of back and forth between myself and the president of Israel.

Listen again to Mr Harris’ words, “I had a good conversation with the president of Israel. We had a firm and respectful conversation.

“It is my job as the taoiseach of this country to speak up for the Irish position on behalf of the people of Ireland.

“The Irish position concerning the Middle East, Gaza, and Israel is very straightforward and very consistent."

“We need to see an immediate cessation of violence, and we need to see unimpeded and unhindered access to humanitarian aid because there is a humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in front of our eyes."

“We need to see a two-state solution. To help bring one about you have to recognise the very existence of two states.”

Mr Harris was asked whether the move could lead to the severing of diplomatic ties between Ireland and Israel. He said: “It is not unilateral, Ireland is working with several like-minded countries concerning this. I expect more to move in the coming days, I expect more to move in the coming weeks."

“Certainly Ireland doesn’t wish to sever diplomatic relations. You can strongly disagree with a country, you can differentiate between the government of a country and the people of a country".

“I believe there are many people in Israel, as well as many people in Palestine, who want to live in peace, want to live in security, want to live in prosperity, want their children to be able to access food.

Mr Harris said the date for the recognition of Palestine as a state had yet to be decided. He added: “There is important sequencing that our country and other countries have to carry out. I mean political processes that have to be followed and they differ slightly from country to country.

“The specific date will be decided in the coming days. What I can tell you is that we intend to recognise the state of Palestine this month and there is not that long left in this month.”

Why am I sharing this with you on this first week of the Personal Witness season? Because it raises our consciousness about our need for global ethics.

It is no wonder why the apostle Paul challenged us, saying, "The God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints” (Ephesians 1: 17-18).

The fifth benefit that my Torah gift will give you this first week of the Personal Witness season is a deeper sense of gratitude and heartfelt appreciation.

Why is this important for us Jews, Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths at this critically important juncture in the history of the human race?

This is important because gratitude involves the realization that the good that comes to us in our lives often comes from a source outside of ourselves, which Jews, Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths often associate with God or Divine Energy.

.So the Torah gift I’m giving you this first week of the Personal Witness season will help you understand the fact that we are not alone in our journey of faith.

From the scientific perspective, nothing is more fundamental to our understanding of the universe than this fact. And that is, the space that separates you and me, wherever you are in the world at this very moment, is not empty.

Scientists call this Planck Vacuum or Planck Intensity. Yes, the scientific term is confusing because it makes us think that the space between you and me is empty, like a vacuum when it is not.

For every cubic centimetre of space, there’s 10 to the power of 93 grams of energy. Try to imagine that.

Here’s a more fascinating observation. While we cannot see all this energy with our naked eye, this energy comes to us in various forms. For example, cosmic microwave background radiation, gravitational wavelengths, strong and weak nuclear forces, infrared light, X-ray, and gamma-ray…etc. etc. This, of course, clearly shows the intelligence of God’s Divine mind who spoke and the universe came into existence.

Remember this, anything in the universe that has mass has gravity. Any physical dynamis has electric magnetic fields. And any human brain emits consciousness that enables us to know that God is all there is in life while everything else is not.

Question: Is it because of the absence of human brains or knowledge deficiency on the part of the leaders of Israel and Hamas that on Monday, May 20, led the ICC to charge war crimes against them?

As the war in Gaza nears eight months, and with Israel poised to cross into the last Palestinian civilian centre in Rafah, the International Criminal Court on Monday announced arrest warrants for leaders of Israel and Hamas for alleged crimes committed “in the situation in the State of Palestine.” But while the charges are remarkable, they are unlikely to change the policies of either side or of the United States.

The ICC issued warrants for five officials. Hamas leader Yahya Sinawar is accused of “war crimes and crimes against humanity” starting with the attacks of Oct. 7, including murder, hostage-taking and torture.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is charged directly for using “starvation of civilians as a method of warfare” and “intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population,” joining the rare ranks of world leaders like Russia’s Vladimir Putin who have been charged with war crimes while leading a country.

Both sides swiftly criticized the warrants. In a statement, Hamas said it “strongly denounces” the charges as “without a legal basis.” Israeli war Cabinet member Benny Gantz said on X that putting "the leaders of a country that went into battle to protect its citizens, in the same line with bloodthirsty terrorists is moral blindness and a violation of its duty and ability to protect its citizens.”

These concerns are more about the court of public opinion than they are about the court of international law; the ICC has no official authority over Israel or the United States, so its actions serve more to organize the global community and draw rhetorical lines in the sand than they do for meting out justice.

For clarity, the United States did help write the Rome Statute, the code that created the ICC in 2002, establishing an international body to bring some of the world’s worst criminals to justice. But when it came to formally submitting to the ICC’s jurisdiction over war crimes and genocide, the U.S. was one of dozens of countries that refused to sign, along with China, Russia and Israel.

The truth of the matter is that for 20 years of war in both countries, the United States faced multiple accusations of war crimes by its forces. While Saddam Hussein was awaiting trial for crimes against humanity in 2004, the world became aware of the humiliation and torture of Iraqi prisoners by U.S. soldiers in Abu Ghraib prison. Charges were ultimately brought in a U.S. military court.

As recently as 2020, the ICC launched an investigation into crimes against humanity committed in Afghanistan, with a special focus on CIA-led night raids on civilians and U.S. military renditions of suspects in other countries. In all cases, the United States rejects the authority of the ICC to hold U.S. citizens accountable for any criminal acts.

On the one hand, resistance to the ICC’s authority helps countries, like the United States and Israel, to maintain protection over their citizens and conduct unilateral military action that goes against global consensus.

The individual countries, not the U.N. get to decide what military action is justified and meets national objectives. This decadeslong dance is how the United States has maintained the “liberal world order” and developed the rules of the road, while also protecting its power and freedom of choice.

Why am I sharing this with you on this first week of the Personal Witness season? Because it emphasizes our human dilemma, namely, it is hard to give thanks when our international judicial system that protects our human rights is designed to benefit the rich at the expense of the poor.

It is no wonder why the apostle Paul challenged us, saying, “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your interests but each of you to the interests of the others” (Phillippians 2: 3-4).

The Historical Proof that Supports our Need for Your Daily Bread that Sustains Us Spiritually

Does it surprise you, then, that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, did not forget to remind us about these things? That is why last week you heard Jesus speaking to us, saying, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you that everything that is written about me in the Law of Moses [Torah] and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled…” (Luke 24:44). ).

Jesus, then, did something which I thought was quite remarkable and quite extraordinary. He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. Jesus said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.

And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:45-49).

Overview Summary of this Week’s Torah Portion

With this in mind, let us now look at the Torah portion for this first week of the Personal Witness season, Numbers 25:10-29: 40 to see the answer to our million-dollar question: What’s in it for me (WIIFM)?

Remember our Lord’s Prayer where you hear Jesus asking Father God, “Our Father who art in heaven…Give us this day our daily bread.” That means every week, God gives us our daily bread, our weekly Torah portion that sustains us spiritually.

So, in the Hebrew language (God’s sacred tongue) from which our English Bible translation was taken, the Torah portion for this first week of the Personal Witness season is called, “Pincas” translated as “Phinehas,” see Numbers 25:10.

With this in mind, let us look at the Torah portion for this first week of the Personal Witness, Numbers 25:10-29: 40. In the Hebrew language (God’s sacred tongue) from which our English Bible translation was taken, this week’s Torah portion is called, “Pinchas,” translated as “Phinehas,” see Numbers 25:10.

To understand this, one has to, first of all, identify the double references in the text. On a superficial linguistic level intended primarily for the Jewish audience, the reading focuses on the code Phinehas (Aaron’s grandson). Thus, in the introductory part of the reading, we see Phinehas being rewarded by God for his act of zealotry or bravery.

In the central part of the reading, Zimri, a prince of the tribe of Simeon, publicly flaunts his intimate relationship with a heathen Midianite prince named Cosby. Phinehas kills both Zimri and Cosby, thus stopping the plague that has befallen the Israelite people. As a result, God grants him a covenant of peace and the priesthood.

Please note that a census of the people is taken, totalling 601,730 men between the ages of twenty and sixty who can go forth to war. Moses is instructed on how the Land of Canaan will be divided by lottery among the tribes and families of Israel. Moses then empowers Joshua to succeed him and lead the people into the Promised Land. The reading concludes with a detailed list of the daily offerings and the additional offerings brought on Shabbat, the first of the month, and the Jewish festivals.

Indeed, on a profound theological level, this week’s Torah portion, “Phinehas” has an important message to us, the Church, and the Body of Christ.

This message is evident when the portion is interpreted in the context of this first week of the Personal Witness season. And that is, sometimes, we need to take a stand in our super-sensitive, tolerant society. In other words, there will be issues in our political establishment, in our business dealings, in our educational institutions, in our families, or even in the church which demand that we put our feet down.

Why is that so? Why do we insist that we say, No? Because our more prominent leaders, superior to us, now seem paralysed. The fact that our more prominent leaders remain paralysed should not necessarily mean that we, too, should remain paralyzed.

How do we know that? Listen, again, to what the Lord said to Moses, “Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, has turned back my wrath from the people of Israel, in that he was jealous with my jealousy among them so that I did not consume the people of Israel in my jealousy. Therefore, say, Behold, I give to him my covenant of peace” (Numbers 25:10-12).

Question: How on earth was Phinehas able to carry out such an act of bravery at the expense of his life? Answer: As God said to the prophet Jeremiah, “Do not say that I am only a youth; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go. And whatever I command you, you shall speak. Be not afraid of them for I am with you to deliver you, says the Lord,” (Jeremiah 1:7-8).

It is no wonder why David acknowledged the presence of God with a sense of gratitude, saying, “Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name!” (Psalm 103:1).

Perhaps, it is for this reason that Peter put it this way, “Come to him, to that living stone, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious, and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ,” (1 Peter 2:4-5).
