Welcome to Your Daily Bread for June 23-29, 2024, by Rev. Apelu Poe, Ph.D!
Key Torah Code for this Last Week of the Personal Witness Season:
“Va’etchanan” (And I sought [the Lord in prayer]): Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11.
Basic Principle of Our Judaic-Christian Faith:
Prayer is the key that activates the power of the anointing of God’s Holy Spirit for your life and mine. Prayer is not a commandment to be obeyed or a set of instructions to be followed. Prayer in its deepest Hebraic root is when the Divine that is inside of you gets to answer the call of the Divine that is outside of you. When the Spirit of God comes upon you, and ignites that Divine spark that is in each one of us, then our mouth opens, and we start proclaiming the mighty acts of God in our lives.
Eliyahu Rips, the mathematician who discovered the Bible code, appeared by name in the Bible, in the place where the Bible tells the story of God coming down on Mount Sinai. “I was shocked.” Dr Rips was himself foreseen in the code that he discovered, the code in the Bible that revealed the future. The Bible Code: Count Down. I’ll get to the point in a minute.
But, first, let me say Talofa, Welcome, and Shabbat Shalom to you, my friends in the name of “Yeshua HaMashiach” Jesus the Messiah! And through the power of God’s Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Spirit). As they say in Samoan, Malo le soifua manuia! Faafetai fo’i le fai tatalo! Congratulations on your good health! Thanks also for the prayers. May our God always grant us his lovingkindness!
Getting back to the point. If you have followed God’s calendar, which dictates and foretells the events of our lives to which the above quote refers, you will know that from June 23-29, we will enter the last week of the Personal Witness Season.
What is a Personal Witness season? Well, just as the word itself suggests, Personal Witness season is a time when God has called us to acknowledge what we can do when we’re empowered by the anointing of God’s Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “For the Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good tidings to the afflicted; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour,” (Isaiah 61:1-2).
This is why Jesus did not forget to remind his disciples and us, “But you shall receive power when the Spirit of God has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth,” (Acts 1:8).
Before we take a look at the Torah portion for this first week of the Personal Witness season, let me also say “thank you” to all of you, my regular readers. You’re a fantastic community of believers made up of Jews, Christians, Muslims, as well as people of other faiths. You are amazing because you take the time to access my Torah-Bible Codes teaching on Facebook and LinkedIn which has now become a top-performing weekly post on social media.
It is, indeed, a great inspiration for me to see that so many of you around the world have been following my teaching on social media from week to week. I call my Torah gift for you this fourth week of the Personal Witness Season “Your Daily Bread for June 23-29, 2024.”
Why am I saying this? Well, for those of you who have been following my teaching, I’m saying this because, as you might have noticed, I have been using this same gift that God has given me for the past 40 years to help guide the destiny of those whose spiritual welfare God has entrusted to me. And now that I have retired from the ordained ministry in July 2021, I want you to have free access to it.
My pastoral desire is simply this: For you to be the person God has created you to be. My prayer, then, is that you would be able to live according to God’s time so that you may discern God’s Divine path for your life and how it is that God wants you to live to best receive his blessing and shine his holy light.
Your Benefits from My Torah Gift I Can Give You This Week
So what exactly can you expect from the Torah gift I’m giving you this last week of the Personal Witness season? Well, the first and foremost is self-consciousness.
Why self-consciousness at such a time of unprecedented circumstances for all of us, a time rife with global conflicts and spiritual disconnect? Because, as we’ve been saying all this time, life transformation will never happen without self-consciousness.
You see, it all comes down to the flow of information from the universe (God), the dynamic of your brain's plank field, and the feedforward and feedback process that is involved in it.
The physics behind all this is not hard to understand. You’re receiving the information from the universe (God), and you are feeding that information forward into your brain’s plank field through a process scientists call quantum oscillation of all your protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Remember, everything that you see in God’s universe (metaphysics), from people to planets, from planets to stars, from stars to galaxies…etc. etc. is composed of matter. Matter may be defined as any substance that has mass and occupies space. At their quantum or sib-atomic level are these 3 sub-atomic particles: protons (positive electrically charged particles, electrons (negative electrically charged particles, and neutrons which help stabilize the flow of these metaphysical entities in space and time.
The same thing is true with us, human beings. We are each composed of matter which consists of numerous cells. Each one of these cells at its quantum or sub-atomic level is made up of hundreds of protons, neutrons, and electrons. So you are receiving the information from the universe (God), and you forward it into your brain’s plank field through this process called quantum oscillation of all your protons, neutrons, and electrons. Your brain plank field will interpret it and will feed it back to you in such a way that will enable you to say, Aha, I now see it with my naked eyes. Now I know. That’s what self-consciousness simply is.
Here’s the point. Until we are made aware of who we are: men-God, or women-God, (read Genesis 4), and what we need to do to help make this world a better place for all of us, we will never be able to get out of this geo-political, socio-economic turmoil that we now find ourselves in, no matter where we are in the world today.
So the Torah gift I’m giving you this last week of the Personal Witness season will help you become aware of the fact that when the Spirit of God comes upon us, and when it ignites that Divine spark of God in each of us, then it’ll move us to seek a better and healthy long-term relationship with others.
Perhaps it is for this reason that on Monday, June 17, G7 leaders accused China of enabling Russia's war on Ukraine in a stark warning.
China’s support for Russia is “enabling” its war in Ukraine, leaders of the world’s most advanced economies warned Friday in a hardening of tone against Beijing, while threatening further sanctions against actors that materially support Moscow’s war machine.
The stark warning, issued at the end of the annual Group of Seven (G7) summit in Italy, comes as the United States is stepping up diplomatic efforts to convince Europe to adopt a tougher stance on China over its role in aiding Russia’s military-industrial complex.
Listen again to the words of the G7 leaders, “China’s ongoing support for Russia’s defence industrial base is enabling Russia to maintain its illegal war in Ukraine and has significant and broad-based security implications.”
“We call on China to cease the transfer of dual-use materials, including weapons components and equipment, that are inputs for Russia’s defence sector.”
The leaders also threatened further actions, including sanctions, to punish Chinese entities that they say are helping Russia circumvent Western embargoes.
“We will continue taking measures against actors in China and third countries that materially support Russia’s war machine, including financial institutions, consistent with our legal systems, and other entities in China that facilitate Russia’s acquisition of items for its defence industrial base,” the joint statement said, vowing to impose “restrictive measures to prevent abuse and restrict access to our financial systems.”
American officials have accused China of helping Russia expand military manufacturing, including through exports like semiconductors, materials and machine tools they say are enabling Moscow to ramp up production of tanks, munitions and armoured vehicles.
The G7 is also taking a tougher stance on China’s economic policies, especially on the issue of industrial overcapacity, vowing to take action against “unfair practices” to “level the playing field and remedy ongoing harm.”
Why am I sharing this with you on this last week of the Personal Witness season? Because it highlights the importance of self-discovery.
It’s no wonder, why the apostle Paul challenged us, saying, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the will of God, what is good, and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2).
The second benefit that my Torah gift will give you this last week of the Personal Witness season is good and responsible leadership. It’ll help you build resiliency, increase creativity, enhance focus, and embody greater compassion.
In other words, good and responsible leadership does not just mean being able to aim and sustain focus. No. It also refers to being able to develop greater clarity, listen and communicate more effectively, and respond instead of reacting under pressure.
Here’s the thing. When we know, trust, and believe that we are God's beloved child, guided by the Spirit of God, we will live more freely in his grace at healthier levels.
Unfortunately, when we believe we are on our own, we move down the levels of personal development into self-defeating behaviour.
Of course, maintaining a stronger or healthy mindset can be challenging at times, but through practice and encouragement, it becomes a skill that can shape and transform your life.
So the Torah gift I’m giving you this last week of the Personal Witness season will help you harness and transform your self-defeating behavior into life-enhancing personal empowerment.
Perhaps it is for this reason that on Sunday, June 16, we witnessed a disappointing end to the Ukraine peace summit as allies agreed to a watered-down peace declaration.
In other words, Kyiv and its allies agreed on a watered-down declaration at a peace summit in Switzerland that backed Ukraine’s territorial integrity but failed to lay out steps to end the war.
Of the 92 national delegations at the two-day summit, only 80 signed the final declaration that Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky had hoped would act as a catalyst for peace.
Karl Nehammer, Austria’s chancellor, who did sign the declaration, explained that blaming the Kremlin for the war had been a source of contention.
Listen again to Mr Nehammer’s words, “It’s a question of the specific choice of words, but even those who won’t sign it have all made clear that their position is the same, that the war must end.”
Russia was not invited to the summit, which it dismissed as a “road to nowhere”, and China, its most important ally, also pulled out early.
Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, has built support in Asia and Africa over the past two years by promising cheap grain, oil and gas, and weapons and he used this influence to lobby for a boycott of the summit and the declaration.
India, Brazil and South Africa and energy superpowers Saudi Arabia and the UAE appeared to opt for a compromise by sending junior delegations to the summit which then declined to sign the final declaration.
No countries in South Asia or Southeast Asia signed up to the summit’s declaration and only a handful of African countries agreed to it.
Even so, Mr Zelensky still hailed the summit as a success.
He said: “A united world is a world of peace, a world that knows how to do right. I thank everyone who worked for this day. Every leader, all the leaders’ teams and advisers, all the states.”
Why am I bringing this to your attention on this last week of the Personal Witness season? Because it emphasises our desperate need for good and responsible leadership.
It is no wonder why the author of the Book of Hebrews challenged us, saying, “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near”(Hebrews 10:23-25).
The third benefit that my Torah gift will give you this last week of the Personal Witness season is a greater sense of responsibility. It’ll help you develop a greater sense of responsibility knowing that God did not put you in a leadership and management position for no reason.
Why is this important for us Jews, Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths at this critically important time in history, a time rife with global conflicts, and spiritual disconnect?
Because a greater sense of responsibility matters. How we lead and take care of each other can go a long way in securing our global stability and peace.
So the Torah gift I’m giving you this last week of the Personal Witness season will help you become aware of the fact that our strength lies in our numbers.
Perhaps it is for this reason that on Monday, June 17 the media reported that Malaysia was preparing to join the BRICS economic group.
The BRICS group of nations originally included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, which gave it the acronym.
The group last year began to expand its membership as it looks to challenge a world order dominated by Western economies, with Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina and the United Arab Emirates joining and more than 40 countries expressing interest.
Listen again to Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia’s Prime Minister, "We have made a decision, we will be placing the formal procedures soon; we are just waiting for the final results from the government in South Africa."
Anwar's comments came ahead of a three-day visit by Chinese Premier Li Qiang this week, as part of celebrations marking the 50th year of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
Malaysia and China are expected to sign several deals during Li's visit, including renewing a five-year trade and economic cooperation agreement.
Why am I sharing this with you on this last week of the Personal Witness season? Because it highlights our need for a greater sense of responsibility in a time of geo-political, and social-economic turmoil.
It is no wonder why the apostle Paul, urged us, saying, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Philippians 4:8).

The fourth benefit that my Torah gift will give you this last week of the Personal Witness season is fearless confidence. It’ll help you develop fearless confidence knowing that our God is ever able and willing to help us if and only if we put our complete trust in His hand.
Why is this important for us Jews, Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths at this critically important time in history, a time characterised by global geo-political and social turmoil?
Because the world is no longer the same. Unless we stay motivated to secure the security of others, we cannot guarantee our security ourselves.
For example, when you are creative and quick to solve an issue that affects others with a brilliant idea that will not happen unless you stay motivated for higher goals.
On the other hand, when you become impatient, hasty in making choices, or interrupt others because you lose interest in the welfare of others, all kinds of problems ensue.
Perhaps it is for this reason that on Tuesday, June 18, the media reported that Ukraine’s newest weapon should terrify Russia’s flailing strategists.
There are four main arteries supplying it. To the east, the Kerch road and rail bridge and two ferries. To the north, partly in response to previous attacks, a rail route. There are normal roads there as well, but they are less useful for moving large stores from A to B. Crimp these arteries and, while you might not sink the carrier, you would render it without propulsion, weapons and food.
The symbolic Kerch Bridge has already been attacked twice, once by a truck full of explosives and once by Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs). Both resulted in damage and repair bills, but neither was decisive.
With President Biden lifting the restriction on the use of certain US-supplied, the US Army’s Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) could now be used to hit the bridge, as well as existing stocks of Storm Shadow and other air-launched weapons.
Getting the latter in position arguably requires greater air control than Ukraine has, but the number of tools Kyiv possesses for wrecking the bridge (and other arteries) for good is increasing.
Now we can add one more to that list: the Stalker 5.0 USV. The reports on this new weapon indicate that it is not dissimilar in terms of range (372 miles) and speed (c 40 knots) to the Magura V5, the USV that has driven Russia’s Black Sea Fleet out of Sevastopol. The payload (150 kg) is a little lighter than the Magura’s 200kg. But the most important difference is cost.
Extreme caution is required when extrapolating any sense of optimism in the maritime environment into the land battle. But choking out Crimea would be so embarrassing and costly that it has to be worth pursuing. Vladimir Putin knows this and is putting his forces into position to counter any such effort, diverting them from other efforts – with no guarantee of success.
Why am I sharing this with you on this last week of the Personal Witness season? Because it highlights the fact that with God’s defensive protection, Ukraine can put an end to Russia’s senseless war.
It is no wonder why the apostle Paul exclaimed, saying, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
The fifth benefit that my Torah gift will give you this last week of the Personal Witness season is peak performance. It’ll help you unlock your potential so you can make better decisions, increase your consistency, and achieve operational excellence.
Why is this important for us Jews, Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths at this morally and spiritually challenging time in human history, a time rife with global conflicts, and spiritual disconnect?
Peak performance can elevate your game, avoid burnout and thrive with success.
So the Torah gift I’m giving you this last week of the Personal Witness season will help you become aware of the fact that you were created by God for higher accomplishment, engineered for success, and endowed with the seed for greatness.
Perhaps it is for this reason that on Tuesday, June 18, the U.S. President, Joe Biden announced relief for some undocumented spouses of US citizens who have been in the country for several years.
The first action aims to streamline the process through which undocumented spouses and undocumented children of U.S. citizens apply for lawful permanent residence.
The policy will allow noncitizen spouses married to U.S. citizens to apply to live and work in the United States legally without having to leave the country. Noncitizen children of applicants would also be eligible for protection.
Under current laws, some undocumented migrants must first leave the U.S. and apply for legal residency from their home countries when they marry a citizen. In some cases, those migrants are barred from returning to the U.S. for up to 10 years.
The Department of Homeland Security estimates that up to half a million spouses could be eligible for the program, and approximately 50,000 children of these spouses would also be protected.
"President Biden is taking an incredibly important action by helping the spouses of U.S. citizens get a path to citizenship. This balanced approach, combined with Biden's border security actions, is much more popular than Trump’s mass deportation plan," Kerri Talbot, Executive Director of The Immigration Hub, told ABC News in a statement.
Rep. Nanette Diaz Barragán, chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, told ABC News in an interview that caucus members had met with the President at the White House in May and called for the protections announced today.
"I think it's a happy day for many immigrant families across America. I think there's going to be people crying tears of joy paired with some sighs of relief. This is a significant executive action by President Biden and the Hispanic Caucus has been for months encouraging and advocating for the President and administration to provide these protections," the congresswoman said.
Why am I sharing this with you on this last week of the Personal Witness season? Because it re-emphasizes the importance of peak performance.
It is no wonder why the apostle Paul reminded us, saying, “For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one test his work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbour” (Galatians 6:3-4).
The sixth benefit that my Torah gift will give you this last week of the Personal Witness season is a deeper sense of gratitude and full-hearted appreciation. It’ll help you develop a deeper sense of gratitude and full-hearted appreciation knowing that our God is faithful and truthful
Why is this important for us Jews, Christians, Muslims, and people of other faiths at this morally and spiritually challenging time in human history?
As John Ortherg put it, "Gratitude is the ability to experience life as a gift. It liberates us from the prison of self-preoccupation."
If we continue to complain and belittle others, guess what we will get? More crabs to complain about. But if we change our attitude, and start thanking and appreciating what other people are doing for us, then the universe (God) will give us more good things to be thankful for.
So the Torah gift I’m giving you this last week of the Personal Witness season will help you become aware of the fact that each one of us is a microcosm of God’s universe with each part of our body paralleling something about the creative forces that God used to create the universe in 6 days.
For example, you have 2 hands, 2 feet, 1 stomach, and 1 sexual organ. That’s what it means “created in the image of God.”
Perhaps it is this deeper sense of gratitude and full-hearted appreciation for what we are that led the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) union here in the U.S. on Tuesday, June 18 to endorse Boden for president.
The union, the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Council 238, represents 8,000 EPA employees, including engineers, lawyers and inspectors.
The union cited Biden’s record of fighting climate change and supporting workers, as well as “the attacks on science and the federal workforce” during rival Donald Trump’s presidency.
“AFGE Council 238 is proud to issue its first-ever political endorsement to President Joe Biden, a leader who supports and values the work of federal employees who are working tirelessly to face the climate emergency,” said AFGE Council 238 President Marie Owens Powell in a written statement.
“Donald Trump’s dangerous rhetoric around climate change, and his comments signalling his intent to gut environmental agencies, tells us that a second term would be catastrophic,” she added.
During his presidency, Trump rolled back environmental regulations, while Biden has focused on implementing tighter rules for industry to protect the climate.
When he was president, Trump removed workplace protections for federal workers and his campaign said that if he’s reelected, he plans to fire “rogue bureaucrats and career politicians.” The Biden administration recently issued a rule aimed at making it harder to fire federal workers.
Why am I sharing this with you on this last week of the Personal Witness season? Because it highlights the importance of giving thanks.
It is no wonder why the apostle Paul challenged us, saying, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phillippians 4:4-7).
The Historical Proof that Supports our Need for Your Daily Bread that Sustains Us Spiritually
Does it surprise you, then, that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, did not forget to remind us about these things? That is why last week you heard Jesus speaking to us, saying, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you that everything that is written about me in the Law of Moses [Torah] and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled…” (Luke 24:44).
Jesus, then, did something which I thought was quite remarkable and quite extraordinary. He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. Jesus said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.
And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:45-49).
Overview Summary of this Week’s Torah Portion
With this in mind, let us look at this week’s Torah portion, Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11. In the Hebrew language (God’s sacred tongue) from which our English Bible translation was taken, this week’s Torah portion is called, “Va’etchanan,” translated as “And I sought [the Lord in prayer],” see Deuteronomy 3:23.
To understand this, one has to, first of all, identify the double references in the text. On a superficial linguistic level which is intended primarily for the Jewish audience, the reading focuses on the Torah code “Va’etchanan” (And I sought [the Lord in prayer]). Thus, in the opening part of the reading, we hear Moses recounting how he pleaded or sought God in prayer to allow him to enter the Land of Canaan. But God refused, instructing him instead to ascend Mt Nebo and see the Promised Land.
In the central part of the reading, Moses describes the Exodus from Egypt and the Giving of the Torah, declaring them unprecedented events in human history. “Has there ever occurred this great thing, or has the likes of it ever been heard? You were shown, to know, that the Lord is God.” Moses predicts that in future generations the people will turn away from God, worship idols, and be exiled from their land and scattered among the nations. Nevertheless, Moses predicts that the children of Israel will seek God, and return to obey his commandments. He also repeats the Ten Commandments.
The reading ends with Moses instructing the Shema prayer which declares the fundamentals of the Jewish faith: the unity of God and the commandment to love God, study his Torah, and bind “these words” as a sign on their arms and heads, inscribing them in the frontlets affixed on the doorposts of their homes.
Indeed, on a profound theological level, this week’s Torah portion, “And I sought [the Lord in prayer]” has an important and timely message to us, the Church, the Body of Christ. This message is evident when the portion is interpreted in the context of this last week of the Personal Witness season. And that is, there is no time in the history of God’s people or the church has there been a greater demand or a desperate need for dedicated leadership than today.
The evidence that supports the truth of that statement is everywhere you turn. It is in politics, in business, in schools, in our lives, and even in the church.
It’s no wonder why on this last week of the Personal Witness season God wants us to rededicate ourselves to the mission for which God has called us. And that is, to help transform this chaotic existence into a peaceful and harmonious world.
How, then, will we be able to do that in this most morally and spiritually challenging time? Through prayer. Prayer is not a commandment to be obeyed. Prayer is not a set of instructions to be followed either. Prayer in its deepest Hebraic sense is when the Divine inside of you gets to answer the call of the Divine that is outside of you.
Remember the process that you go through when engaging in the act of prayer. When the Spirit of God comes upon you and ignites the Divine spark of God that is inside you, then your mouth will open and your lips will start proclaiming the mighty acts of God in your life. That is what happened to David when he said, “Lord, open my mouth so that my lips will proclaim your mighty deeds.” Prayer, then, is the key that activates the power of the anointing of God’s Holy Spirit for your life and mine.
How do we know that? Listen to what Moses said, “I sought the Lord in prayer at that time, saying, O Lord God, you have only begun to show your servant your greatness and your mighty hand; for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as yours.” (Deuteronomy 3:23-24).
Jesus reflected on that in Luke 4:16-21 when he quoted Isaiah 61:1-2, saying, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord God has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the broken hearted; to proclaim liberty to the captives; and the opening of the prison to those who are bound and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour,” (Isaiah 61:1-2).
Perhaps, it is for this reason that David exclaims, saying, “Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory and the majesty for all that is in the heavens and the earth is yours…But who am I, and what are my people that we should be able thus to offer willingly?” (1 Chronicles 29:11, 14). Recognizing the importance of prayer, David, then, said, “Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not thyself from my supplication,” (Psalm 55:1).
That is why Paul acknowledges the importance of prayer, saying, “Three times I sought the Lord about this, that it might depart from me; but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness,” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9).
Jesus, therefore, summarized it this way, saying, “Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son if you ask anything in my name, I will do it,”(John 14: 13-14).
