So, explain the math to me. How exactly does retaining some random 5% slice of customers who would have otherwise churned suddenly translate into DOUBLING your profits (the original claim)...not just revenue, but profits! You know...this is just a made-up nonsense claim! This did NOT come from Bain...there's NO research...or studies...or data! It's literally a number that someone pulled out of the a%% and dropped into an article in the late 1980s and it's been mindlessly repeated ever since (including by Bain...and HBR). --- And the 5x more to get a new customers is ALSO a made-up zombie number that someone pulled out of thin air. In this case, in report from 1979...and it's been bastardized and mindlessly repeated for 45 years now! Like the "5% increase in retention" number, this is also NOT a real number. Both are make belive nonsense!
