Your Craft...Your Techne
We are constantly on the move—working, caring, creating—you name it. Yet, we often overlook the daily activities that sustain us, seeing them as small and failing to recognize how they fit into the big picture.
In the last two years, or maybe three—okay, a little over??—I have been working on a new book series. When I started thinking of a title, a word I have loved and reused every day came to mind: Techne. Techne is a Greek word that means art, craft, skill, or technique used to achieve something or a goal. We sometimes weigh tasks by their perceived impact on the goal, but in reality, no task is too small for the goal we set out to achieve.
While working on this series, I have also been upskilling by taking some security certifications. With work, family, and personal commitments, I found it challenging to set aside two hours a day to study. So, I decided to dedicate 20 minutes each morning to focused study for two months. Some days I did less, sometimes only 10 minutes, and other days more, but the goal remained: get certified.
How does this tie to Idia Techne: STEM Explorer? This book takes us on a journey of discovery, exploring the world around us and the people who, little by little, through craft and skill-building, help make it a better place. By the time you finish reading, you will relate to the daily innovations around you and be inspired to explore your surroundings more, discovering how you can contribute to making it better.
