Your country club sucks

I had the displeasure of being a silent “participant”

in a truly disappointing conversation.

As the basketball coach of 10-year-old's,

I was also the transportation guy to and from practice.

A car full of 10-year-olds.

Usually a hoot.

Not this time.

Most discussions were

fun and Innocuous.

“Who’s your favorite basketball player?”

“Who will win the Super Bowl?”

“Do we play the red or the blue team this Sunday?”

And then, a shift.

“My family’s country club has a bigger pool.”

“My family’s country club has more tennis courts.”

“My family’s country club…”

“Your country club sucks.”

What???

My hunches told me

that this was unlikely

a 10-year-old’s observation…

That this came from somewhere else.

Parents, be careful.

Our children are listening.??
