Is Your Corporate Foundation Out of Sync with Your Business? Here’s the Solution.

Is Your Corporate Foundation Out of Sync with Your Business? Here’s the Solution.

Are you struggling to align your corporate foundation with your core business? You’re not alone.

Many leaders face the tough challenge of creating real synergy between their philanthropic work and business goals. Does it feel like your corporate foundation and company are working in silos? This disconnect not only delays the ROI of your “doing good” initiatives, but it can also dilute the overall impact.

But here’s the thing: it doesn’t have to be this way.

In our latest Impact Leaders Lab session, we had an eye-opening discussion with Alan Barbieri, Head of Programmes at Generali’s The Human Safety Net. He shared exactly how Generali cracked the code and aligned their foundation’s social impact with their business strategy—resulting in $4.4 million in annual co-funding and groundbreaking partnerships.

Key Takeaways You Don’t Want to Miss:

1. Bridge the Gap: ensure strategic alignment between your foundation’s goals and your company’s core business from day one - this is where the magic happens

2. Speak Business Language: communicate your foundation’s success in a way that resonates with leadership - think retention rates, visibility, or financial performance

3. Show, Don’t Tell: use simple, visual dashboards to demonstrate short-term wins and long-term impact, making it easier for executives to understand your foundation's value

Alan Barbieri Shannon Houde, MBA, PCC thank you for sharing these learnings! The longer piece is great and it reminds me of what a colleague once said about a corporate foundation's strategy being good when it forces the company to arbitrate between decisions. That's when you know synergy between the two entities is really happening.
