Is your content marketing not working, or is your Content Management System (CMS) completely outdated

The Internet has changed and so should the way we build and manage websites. No more servers or databases, and content management systems that are intuitive, writer-friendly and focused on customers.

A few revealing data points

More than 70% of 40,000+ Wordpress websites in Alexa Top 1 Million suffer from vulnerabilities that can be detected using free automated tools.

Over 2% are still running on the subversion of Wordpress 2.0, and only 1,785 are running on the latest version 3.6.1, the version with no known vulnerabilities. And that is just the Wordpress core platform, we are not even talking about plugins here.

Over 110,000 websites unpatched 2 months after Drupalgeddon 2 on March 28th, 2018. Attackers are able to carry out full site take over of any customer, e.g. to install a malicious backdoor and execute arbitrary commands on the server.

Five hours after the Drupal team published a security update for the Drupal CMS, hackers are actively exploiting it in the wild. Two hours after the first in-the-wild attacks were reported, an exploit was posted on Pastebin.

What about SEO

Performance is about retaining users and improving conversions. Your rankings and SEO are heavily dependent on the performance and load speed of your website, and the uniqueness and freshness of your content.  Every second of improvement results in a 27% increase in conversion rate. Each blog post will lead to more traffic, better ranking and better conversion.

At around 2 seconds load time your conversion rate will be around 1.9% (the median number for the top 1 million websites on Alexa), dropping to under 1% for load times that are exceeding 5 seconds.

At around 2 seconds load time, your bounce rate (i.e. visitors leaving your website after visiting 1 page)  can drop to 12.8% and can go up to 58% for load times exceeding 9 seconds.

A website with around 2,500 visitors per month, and around 20 unique pages and a blog, will have a bounce rate (i.e. visitors leaving your website after visiting 1 page) of about 42% at 2 seconds load time. That bounce rate will go up to around 85% with a load time of 9 seconds. Mobile visitors will bounce at 100% at 9 seconds load time.

The issues with the current legacy CMS Systems like Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal or Concrete5

Building secure sites is hard, and a deep knowledge of back-end security patterns is required. And even if that knowledge is around or can be procured, it is an ongoing battle against vulnerabilities. And it surely comes at a steep price.

Building performant sites is hard, and a deep knowledge of browsers, network and back-end-performance are required. That knowledge is easier to procure but again comes at a steep cost when implementing legacy CMS Systems.

And that is not even taking into account the usability of legacy CMS systems for editors and writers. With a ton of functionality that is very seldom used, a series of plugins that work one day, break the other day and nobody around to quickly fix the issue, the reputation damage to your company could be severe.

Whatever happens inside your company, the first GO TO place for the general public is your website. Just a peak in traffic could bring a Wordpress site down, and it could take hours before it is back on. And most companies will need to seek outside help to get things fixed.

How do we solve this issue - Building Hyperdynamic websites

By pre-rendering the HTML Pages - in today’s technology world, it does not make any sense that a web page is built, built, and built again each time a visitor hits your website. If pages are pre-rendered, everybody browsing your website has the same fast and performant experience. And it does not matter if you have 10 or 1,000 simultaneous visitors. It will never get crowded, and your website will never slow down. All public pages are pre-built resulting in lightning-fast speed performance, but every part can and is dynamic, thanks to Javascript.

The real answer is building websites on the JAM Stack.

JAM Stack stands for Javascript, API, and Markup. More than a platform it is a philosophy to build websites entirely with front-end technologies and uses the browser as an integration platform. All content is served through a Content Delivery Network (CDN), serverless and without any need for a database. JAMstack does not remove complexity, it moves it to domain experts or Websites as a Service who offer specialized services that fit your needs, and your needs specifically. Serverless functions and API’s run on servers obviously, just not on the server where your website is built.

What can editors and writers expect with a Content Management System (CMS) for the JAMstack

  • Intuitive WYSIWYG editing and preview
  • Clean and easy to use User Interface (UI)
  • Modular and purpose-built content structure -- typically with ReactJS components and Widgets
  • Auto-saving
  • Media Asset Management
  • Workflows
  • History and Roll-back
  • … all this without interfering with the code or the functionality of the website. Just start writing and publishing content.

Seeing and using is believing

We have worked very hard in the last months, to give writers, editors, and basically anyone that is involved in updating and managing content on a website the chance to experience a Content Management System (CMS) for the JAMstack.

Go to WebriQ Sandbox invite. You will receive an email with all the login details for your WebriQ Sandbox account. The Sandbox account is an exact replica of what a live website will look like, and it is an exact replica of how you will be able to manage, update and publish content on your website. All this without the stress of breaking the code or breaking the bank.

Just write away, and let us know what you think.
