Your Comprehensive Guide to Leave Provisions in the UAE

Welcome to our latest edition of Unlock HR with the #DSouzaSisters!

Business professionals widely agree that a company's workforce is its most valuable asset. Employees' productivity, creativity, and engagement thrive when they have sufficient time to rest and recharge.

Properly managing employee leave not only minimizes operational costs and disruptions but also enhances employee well-being and mental health. Countries like the UAE have clear laws outlining different types of leave entitlements. We will explore the eight leave entitlements in the UAE, including public holidays and annual leave. These provisions support work-life balance and cater to various employee needs.

Here are the eight types of leave entitlements for employees in the UAE:

1.?Public Holidays

Employees are entitled to 10 days of leave throughout the year to observe religious and national events.

2.?Annual Leave

After completing six months in an organization, employees can take 30 calendar days of leave per year.

3.?Sick Leave

Employees can avail themselves of 90 days of sick leave annually, with 15 days fully paid, 30 days with half pay, and 45 days without pay.

4.?Maternity Leave

Female employees are granted 60 days of leave, including 45 days of paid leave and 15 days with half pay. An additional 45 days of unpaid leave can be taken in case of pregnancy-related illness.

5.?Parental Leave

Both parents, father, and mother, are entitled to five working days of leave starting from the day of their child's birth, up to six months.

6.?Bereavement Leave

In the unfortunate event of the death of a spouse, employees are granted five days of paid bereavement leave. In the case of the death of a parent, child, sibling, grandchild, or grandparent, three days of paid bereavement leave are provided.

7.?Study Leave

Employees who have completed a minimum of two years in an organization are entitled to 10 days of leave per year to prepare for their examinations.
