Is Your Company Ready to Rethink the Future of Work?

What would you do if tomorrow, no one could come to work?

Companies today are equipped with protocols to deal with servers going down, but how prepared are employees to perform their jobs from home?

In light of recent events, this situation is not so far-fetched. But instead of ringing the alarm and entering panic mode, I believe that now is the time to rethink the future of work.

Employees working remotely

In the past 10 years, remote work has grown by 91% in the US with an increasing number of employees working flexible hours. Computers and advanced technology have changed the professional landscape and our ability to communicate. The world in effect has become smaller, and today, the global marketplace is more inter-connected than ever.

But working remotely isn’t the standard across the world. Many companies still require employees to work from the office. With the onset of the coronavirus spreading, employers protecting the health and safety of their teams are telling staff to work from home. For certain countries, a remote workforce represents a major cultural shift. Globally, we are on the cusp of entering a new era of work.

What’s the remote IT option?

Employees working from home need the necessary resources and tools to effectively perform their job. But who will they turn to if they need technical assistance? As Kate Lister, the president of Global Workforce asked in the Washington Post, “Do they (employees) know how to use the video conference? Can they share files remotely? Do they know how to create a group discussion with their teammates? What if their laptop fails — is there a help number they can call?”

At this very moment, companies need to start assessing how prepared they are to support and empower remote workers. This perspective shift can open new doors to considering what the most efficient work processes are for employees in general, regardless of circumstance. If you have an employee who is more productive out of the office, having a digitally enabled organization would allow them to work remotely, ultimately benefitting the company.

Equipped for a new reality

Technology is a bridge that connects us when it is impossible to physically meet, making it easier to collaborate and connect. But technology is only effective when a person fully understands how to use it. In order to empower remote employees to perform at their highest ability, they need autonomy and proficiency in their software applications. Since the IT department isn’t always going to be an option for on-hand assistance, a digital adoption platform can be the solution for not only maintaining but improving workflows. Digital adoption solutions provide in-app and cross-app guidance to users so that any business task or process can be completed.

The time is now

History is full of catastrophes, and time and time again, humans have prevailed through cooperation, innovation, and tenacity. The future of work is changing rapidly. Business leaders have the opportunity to rise to this new challenge and ensure their employees are set to succeed by creating processes that can not only be performed remotely, but optimized through software capabilities. This level of digital fluency benefits the users, but most of all, the organization. Allow technology to connect your employees, no matter where they are.
