If Your Company Employs People, You Need to Read This
This is a radical truth that most wouldn’t be willing to share on this platform, but as a mental health professional, I cannot stay quiet.
Traumatic, devastating incidents like the mass shooting at a Chesapeake, Virginia, Walmart are being addressed with little more than a politically correct soundbite. While the impacted families reel from the unfathomable loss of mothers, sons, sisters and fathers, the standard corporate message rings hollow:?
“We are focused on doing everything we can to support our associates and their families.”
Here’s the thing: that “everything” corporations are doing MUST be inclusive of mental health workshops.
When mental illness goes undiagnosed and untreated … When it is continuously stigmatized not just in personal relationships but in the workplace … when it is ignored in our communities – suicides, murder, violence and other devastating tragedies continue to pile up.
The only way to prevent these incidents is to be proactive and address mental health problems directly.
