There are lots of different ways to communicate, either online or in person.? Finding the style that works for you and for your business is essential to connecting with your customer or client base in an effective way. I learned a long time ago that if you don’t reach people where they are, you will not only not make the sale, you will lose the connection altogether. Face it, nobody wants to talk to a grouch! People will go out of their way to avoid you if you aren’t friendly and receptive to their point of view, ready to listen to their needs. Instead, being cheerful and detached will help you gain the rapport you want.
?
It comes down to being the person people are happy to see.? When you hear from somebody these magic words, “It’s great to see you,” the rest of the day lights up for both of you and doing business becomes a pleasure instead of a job.
?
A lot depends on what kind of market you serve.? When I had a food service business, the pace was fast and furious.? Corporate communication, chef calls, and the like demanded a very efficient way of speaking, focused on processes.? It is important to be friendly and to listen effectively in a fast-paced work environment. There is a certain language that holds a lot of unspoken assumptions and people rely on that shared understanding.
?
Fashion and design is a different type of language.? It’s very personal, so gaining the feeling of connection with the designer or the retailer is key to having a successful interaction.? It takes extra time to build that deep connection. I found that in any business, what you really need to know is this: what is the end user looking to have? That’s going to depend on the product or service, the brand promise, and the customer expectation.

?
Is it a feeling?? In some markets, price means less than the feeling a person gets from purchasing the product.? In other markets, price is in the front of the customer’s mind.
